Let's just damn hope it does not end up like F3AR.
"The other challenge the Dead Space 3 team faces has to do with the decision to eliminate the AI partner. "
Well that's a relief. I was planning on doing this coop anyways, but at least if I try singleplayer i don't have to deal with some dumbass AI character.

This was known for quite a while.
Now all we do is sit... and pray.
In the meantime, Dead Space 3 is just as stifling (in a good way!) and nerve-wracking as ever. It feels like a pretty logical extension of Dead Space 1 and 2, which felt unlikely as recently as a few months ago. Among the major plot points that Visceral plans to hit is the origin of the mysterious Markers--the alien artifacts that have a great deal to do with the creation of the Necromorphs.
I wonder if people will stop complaining about the co-op now.
Eh, probably not.
Edit:
Let's get all this out of the way.
The "cover system" is when you stand near boxes or whatever, Issac hunches over.
There's no AI partner in SP and the plot changes slightly accommodating for one or two players.
Ammo is not universal.
Don't fuck it up don't fuck it up don't fuck it up.
I still remember the footage of the shooting section where humans were enemies. That wasn't a good sign.
This game is going to be dumb and bad and just have the dead space logo slapped on it, 2 already started to get dumb and not dead space, the footage from the 3rd doesnt look any better.
Its going to be like RE6 but Dead Space.

Still looks like Dead Space 2 style Dead Space to me.
Save for universal ammo, which is my only REAL gripe with the game. And the red balls of death during the EVA part looked silly, but that's not enough to be pissy about.
I think a lot of what's making people freak out is the co-op, which we've seen is handled well, (not having a dumb ass AI partner in single player, with altered cutscenes and narrative for when he's around to make it fit in lore-wise) and human enemies, which feel dead space-y as a human enemy can get, and which aren't going to replace the necromorphs any time soon. But "OH NOE THERE'S A COVER SYSTEM D:", its no more a cover system than Far Cry 3's, if you go into sights while near a wall / object, you duck down a bit, no gluing yourself to chest high walls. Hell I saw people bitching about how the bosses that have been shown off in DS3 are "glowing weakpoint bosses" as if Dead Space 1 and 2 weren't chock full of those... And "BUT THERE'S MILITARY GUNS IN THE GAME. ITS REMOVING THE COOL IMPROVISED WEAPONS FROM DEAD SPACE 1 and 2!!!!!!"... Oh wait...
Just give the game a fucking chance people, its no were near as dire as you're all making it out to be for fucks sake. It has the action moments of Dead Space 2, and the tense lonesome moments of Dead Space 1, and if you want to for a second play through or some shit, grab your best friend for a game of co-op. I fail to see what's so wrong with that.
You people are prepared to cry franchise murder at the slightest goddamn thing.
Knowing that there won't be stupid AI in single, I will give it a chance for sure. It was my main fear with the game.

I have said there wasn't in AI partner in like every DS3 thread. :v:

It doesn't have universal ammo, it was just a placeholder for the developers in the early versions of the game

Nvm, beaten to the punch ^

oh well that's even better. the only hangup I have now is the human enemies, but if the game's as good as DS2 I think I'll be able to move past that
Given the direction the story went in DS2, human enemies were inevitable.
I have said there wasn't in AI partner in like every DS3 thread. :v:
I'm not reading them all....in fact I'm rarely on FP anymore

At least storywise human enemies do kinda make sense, due to Issac almost single-handedly fucking up their Marker plans quite excessively. I guess it comes down to gameplay of whether the human enemies compliment the Necromorphs or bring the game to a screeching halt of a slow firefight every time you run into them.

No, I just know this isnt gonna be dead space anymore, 2 already deviated pretty far from Dead Space 1, no exception for 3 either.
Its just another third person shooter with necromorphs and dismemberment now, thats what I get from all these trailers and gameplay videos.
All my gripes for 2 and from what I see of 3 is that its now just full on action packed that then throws in some "scary moments" not to say 1 was scary, but it was subtle and tense, Dead Space 2 is like the ADHD brother of 1 that has to always have something going on, from pipes bursting, to retarded nicole shit, to other shit bursting or breaking.
My biggest issue with 3 and 2 is that they stuck with Isaac, they didnt need to at all, sure his shit left on a cliff hanger at the end of 1 but they could have stopped him their, because now he went from a silent, immersive engineer, to a fucking battle hardened bad ass mother fucker who spouts cheesy dialog.
They had the chance to bring on a whole new person, instead they stuck with Isaac and the retarded Nicole shit which is just dumb, it would have been more interesting never knowing what happened to Isaac or not.
The game has changed for the worse, it will never go back to its roots because its already so far away from it.
So for someone who really loves Dead Space and gives a fuck about it, yeah Dead Space 3 does look dire, it looks horrible, its just a cash grab by EA on another IP they slowly ruined.
Im sure its going to be a fun game, but thats it, its just going to be fun and the only reason its going to succeed is because it has the Dead Space name.
John Carver? Wonder if he's related to Jack Carver.

Subtle? Dead Space 1 had obvious jump scares every other minute. I just shot shit on the ground because I knew it was going to pop up.
DS2 ditched the constant jump scares for more tactful things, like said pipes breaking. If you see any horror movie you're going to see the same method.
That "retarded Nicole shit" is largely the point of the series. The effects of the marker.

Replay DS1 and look at it without the rose-tinted goggles and you'll see what an improvement DS2 was.
Dead Space has never been scary if you play it smart. It's only scary if you're a wuss or you can't conserve ammo.
Its just a cash grab by EA on another IP they slowly ruined.
Visceral has always wanted to do co-op. It was originally in DS1 but they took it out because it didn't fit.
All EA has to do with this is the funding, distribution, and advertising. Their publishing producers at Visceral are told to not influence development in any way.
And with that, I will abandon thread.

Dead Space 1 was not subtle. I hear this all the damn time, and I really don't get it. It was just jump scares upon jump scares. A monster would burst out of the vents, or a piece of machinery makes a sudden loud noise. I fucking loved the first, admittedly more so than the second, but it was NOT subtle. Not saying Dead Space 2 didn't have its share of this, but so many people tell me all the time that DS2 was a MASSIVE DECLINE IN QUALITY when it came to its scares, which it wasn't. At all.
As for that "nicole shit", that was all present in DS1, her being a hallucination of the marker was the big "twist" of the game (even if it was obvious as fuck). Given that the second game focused on the insanity caused by exposure to makers, it makes perfect sense to see her in the game.
Its not the same game, its not meant to be. The series evolved, as opposed to staying stagnant. If you don't like it, what fucking ever, everyone sees things differently. You hate the way the series went? Well there's a hell of a lot of people who love it just as much. Shit changed, but its still Dead Space at its core. The series is FAR from being ruined.

Dead Space 1 was much more subtle than 2, 3 looks no different from the retarded cinematic closeups of necromorphs in some of the videos, 1 did have its jump scares, but it was much different from 2, far less, 2 just feels like another jump scare every room just to make sure you arent bored yet.
The Nicole shit was way less in 1, only really towards the end and it was still hardly nothing, in 2 she just cant stop pretending to be scary in rooms.
Its not rose tinted glasses at all, the series has obviously turned into a more action game than it already was just to appeal to a much larger majority.
Im not even saying Dead Space 2 is a bad game, its not, its just not as good as 1 by any means, and 3 so far looks worse than 2 which isnt good.
I dont care about their being coop honestly, I could care less about the ammo if it was going to be universal, its just the direction the game has gone in.
My faith in Visceral Games and the Dead Space series stays strong, and I am looking forward to the release of this more than anything else. Even more than Dragonborn on the PC.
