It really isn't that great of a game. I had nearly 2500 hours on it(I have no clue how), and it's been about a month since I last played. The matches, no matter in ranked or un-ranked are either a conclusion of: Getting wrecked. Or being a wrecking ball. There is no other way around it, there never seemed to be 'close' matches that I've heard about. It's always been a slaughter. Dota 2 has a great art style, and it looks great for a DotA type game, but god damn. The Community fucking ruins it.

As a league of legends player, I've always wondered how dota actually stacks up to it.

http://www.dotabuff.com/players/25638017 50% winrate across the board, almost every single one of them is a solo game. the reason party matchmaking exists is to play with friends, be them irl or online ones. it's one of those rare games that you can never really be good at, gives you incentive to learn at every match, and to me it sounds like you tilted hard and stopped playing because "everyone but me is bad". there's close matches. every single one of them is if you put your mind to it.

It really balances out the snowballing problem. The people suck yeah, thats just because of what kind of players these type of games attract

I was very good with Dota. In fact I'd say that if I were to play with a relatively competitive team, I'd fit in fairly well. I didn't say everyone was bad. Please re-read what I wrote. I said that there were ups and downs to every match, but a lot of it was mixed with horrible, horrible players. Oh and yeah, I'll get right on the playing with the friends I don't have. Also, yeah.. No. There are no close matches if I put my mind to it. It's either steam roll, or be steam rolled. That or someone feeds because they didn't get a lane. Or they didn't farm properly. Or someone didn't lane with them. Or they ping 200 times to make sure you KNOW that you're doing something wrong in their peruvian minds. The community is a shithole, you cannot even argue that. It literally is a cesspool of fecal matter. There are some chocolate nuggets along the way, but it really could do with a region lock to help herd people out of what makes this games community so ridiculously bad.
yeah you're right, trying to think logically toward dota isn't gonna work I suggest that if you're new to dota, stay away from it, specially if you're solo bye
You not having friends is not a problem with the game. If you honestly think that there's no possible outcomes for a match other than a steamroll one way or another you're bad. Sorry to be blunt but that's the simple truth. In over 3000 hours in Dota (http://www.dotabuff.com/players/37810758) I've had less than 40 games that were steamrolls. I've had maybe 5 steamrolls this entire year. It is exactly that shit mentality that causes most steamrolls, people giving up after 5-10 minutes. I've come back nd won from impossible situations, games where there was literally no chance we could win and somehow due to them fucking up and my team executing it flawlessly we ended up winning (or the opposite, and we ended up losing). The community isn't exactly stellar, no, but the rest of your post just screams a shit attitude to me. [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] Also the game is easier to learn with a buddy or 2, but it's easily doable when solo. Even if you don't know anybody who plays it simply asking in the Dota 2 General Thread (dota subforum here obviously) will get you people to play with.
I worked hard to try to get good at this game, and now I'm playing for a team that competes in all the big amateur leagues, and sometimes we have matches that get casters and play against really good teams and it's fun and stuff. I also have minimal problems with teammates usually and get to play highly competitive Dota in almost every pub game. This game is a really great game if you work hard at it and focus on getting better, there's no surprise that it's so popular. ( I play mostly solo queue )
I was very good with Dota.
The fact you build Battlefury on Bounty Hunter says otherwise: http://www.dotabuff.com/players/25638017/matches?date=&faction=&hero=bounty-hunter&lobby_type=&game_mode=&region=&duration= You say you're "very good", but your item builds speak volumes about your actual skill level. Vanguard on Bristle (before Crimson Guard got added), always go Bloodstone on Death Prophet, Shadow Blade and Desolator on Shadow Fiend instead of Blink and Satanic/Skadi, virtually never Blink on Templar Assassin, Battlefury on Tusk and Shadow Blade instead of Blink on Ursa? That shit won't fly on 4k MMR and higher.
every game since the last patch has been close-ish tbh; there's always going to be stomps but it's been pretty fair and balanced and more importantly pretty fun
Weirdly enough, most games I've had since the patch have been pretty balanced.
You not having friends is not a problem with the game.
I actually got some new friends by playing dota. It's been a year since I got to know them and two months ago I visited them in UK for a week.. If you're not an asshole not having friends to play with should not be a problem because you will be making friends to play with.

I'd say you're both bad
Considering his games are only in the high skill bracket it's safe to say he is not fit for 4k in the first place
Normal, High, Very High brackets are not a good indicator of match skill in the first place. They're really broad.

Now that it builds into Crimson Guard yeah, vanguard is good because it scales much better to lategame. Bloodstone is a waste on DP, her ult is what makes her a major threat. Eul's gives enough regen to use Carrion Swarm often and once your ult is down you're nowhere near as scary. SF is squishy while he has a built in AC aura/free Desolator. He needs tankyness, not to be even more of a glass cannon. Blink is objectively better than Shadow Blade. If you want to continue discussing this, let's take it to the dota general thread.
You can avoid the shitty community by just muting everyone at the start of every game.
You can avoid the shitty community by just muting everyone at the start of every game.
I'm sorry to say but if you actually mute everyone consistently at every start of a match then you're also a cunt. It's a team game, it requires cooperation. Muting everyone and not even trying to establish a strategy or make sure people can understand you is a fucking scumbag strategy that only serves to cripple yourself.

I don't need to spend 40 minutes listening to Russian, it's an ugly language.
Guys don't expect a community of gamers that understand the game as much as you do in a free game. Most people are casual or just stupid in league of legends and dota 2 and a shit ton of other free games. Organize a team and your problems with the community are solved. Also I am happy in starcraft 2 the dedgaem, I met many people and made friends through the game. I had people inviting me to a clan where we practice a lot and they arrange tourneys which are really fun and I even had people apologizing after the game for being bad or not being a good match up. Sure it has bm players but it's fun to destroy them. I am also a team player in sc2 and I don't always play 1v1 so I can kinda compare the games which a team game concept mindset. As a season 1 lol player and with 350 hours on dota 2 I say that you have to create a team for the good game experience. These games are fucking great but people tend to leave problems unsolved and they whine all the time.
Normal, High, Very High brackets are not a good indicator of match skill in the first place. They're really broad.
They were back in the day before ranked. At my prime(i am garbage now havent played really in a year) I was in Very High every game and also getting on the front page of DotaTV and facing top NA players almost all the time, mostly from top IXDL players. It was actually, for a time, a very good way to figure out your skill, required more effort but it could be done. That being said when I was playing the NA dota scene wasnt really much to brag about and as of today im garbage. Still Very High I would assume is still consistent with what it was before ranked. Basically what im trying to say in this thread is Dota is all about getting good, if I could get to the fucking top SOLO(99% of my games are solo) then so cant anyone else, its no excuse.
