- It bluescreen'd as I typed this out just, so I'm going to type it as fast as I can. -
Simply put, I've had this problem for a long time now. It started out with my CPU overheating, which I didn't figure out until after I'd replaced my RAM. I replaced my cooler with a Corsair H60 when I discovered this, and things were fine, for about 2 months or so. Then, the bluescreens started again. I swapped out every component in my PC, HDD, GPU, PSU, RAM, SATA cables no avail. It was at this point I was losing hope, and started using a shitty pentium 4 as a replacement. It wasn't untill I took off the heatsync section of the cooler I discovered it hadn't been making full contact (I will note here, my CPU did NOT report high temps), for whatever reason (I can include pictures if anyone wants, later), it was like, a triangle out of the square of thermal paste that was fully intact. I replaced the thermal paste straight away, and discovered that this stopped the bluescreens, but behold, it was only for another 6 weeks.
I was fustrated now, because I'd spent so much time and money trying to fix this. I fiddled about with drivers and formatting and all that nonesense, and eventually ended up replacing the thermal paste again (Again, my CPU temps displayed as fine). This remarkably fixed it, but again, only for another 6 weeks. At this point, I decided perhaps the CPU had been damaged, so I purchased a new one, which fixed it, for again, another 6-8 weeks. After this, I then discovered, (as I went to take off the cooler in frustration), that the radiator was compacted with dust http://puu.sh/1EsF9. I cleared it up, and it worked fine for another 6 weeks, until bluescreens began again. This time, I just straight up took out the cooler, and replaced it with the original stock cooler, and that had been running great for just over a month (until now). I had assumed that the water cooling unit was cutting out, or something similar, meaning that my CPU was not being cooled for moments, overheating when I wasn't checking. But. The stock cooler couldn't possibly be cutting out, or I'd hear it.
What really confuses me about this whole mess, is that EVERY time I fiddle with the CPU in SOME way, the bluescreens stop for -6 weeks-. However. The temps are all fine now, and it's even a brand new CPU. I can't think of a single reason anymore. I honestly thought I'd fixed it with swapping back to the stock cooler. This is becoming a real nightmare for me, so I'm hoping someone could have an answer, even if it's a long shot.
I've posted my logs on a windows 7 forum, and the response I got simply told me to update my service pack, do a disk check and update my network drivers.
I can't deal with this much longer, it's really, really stressful. It's not always necessarily on CPU intensive tasks, though it is mainly when I'm playing a game, sometimes it does it whilst I'm watching a video.
Extra details:
- Sometimes the bluescreen would cause my PC to complain on boot about corrupted boot files.
- The RAM check button on the ASUS motherboard would sometimes light up red, and refuse to boot my PC until it has been pressed.
My specifications:
ASUS NForce 740a Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (3.4 GHz)
Nvidia GTX 460 1GB
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (1600 MHz)
Samsung Spinpoint F4
If you haven't tried reinstalling Windows, I would blame the motherboard.
I've worked with several hundred ASUS motherboards over the past 15 years and I've never not had some sort of issue with the motherboard not behaving properly.
