I want an ex-boyfriend just for this reason now
People get offended by anything.
Holy shit, how is this in any way their fault?
I know, of course, that this is not a deliberate assault.
The people in the article didn't seem offended, just saying that it was poorly planned.
Which it was, liking a Facebook post doesn't necessarily mean you literally "like" the content of the post. So you often get people liking sad posts.

But for the majority this little event worked out just fine. Facebook can't analyze every single post for possible sadness inducing content.

Exactly so they shouldn't have attempted something like this? Or at least gave users choice to choose pictures before it compiled a list automatically?
The idea itself is decent enough, but seriously did no one see something was going to go wrong with this? I mean they were discussing adding the 'dislike' option just a couple of weeks ago, no one put 2 and 2 together and thought "Wait a minute, since people don't have any other option they have to use the like button to show they've read/seen a post and felt something about it, which might not always be positive. Perhaps we shouldn't just jump on most likes equals best memory"?

Screw that, at least it helps you identify who to block. I'm not one for sharing all that is going in my life with other people, but if someone else wants to more power to them. I'm not going to complain about people enjoying their year and sharing with people, even if I think it is absolutely unnecessary.
But not seeing how an automated system for generating an album of key points of your year might fuck up with 1.3 billion users (or whatever) is either incredibly naive or incredibly stupid.

Another good reason to keep your Facebook feed clean, by removing unwanted relationships and adjusting your privacy settings.
I don't use Facebook often, but when I open my feed most of the stuff I see is interesting or directly related to me. I'm not sure but you might be able to disallow certain people's stuff on your feed.
And bringing activity to it is the point of the thingy, so I guess mission success.
