• Enabling Dolbyl or DTS 5.1 surround sound on SPDIF?

Hello FP users. I'm using a older JVC RX-E100R home cinema receiver, and over the past few months I have been using Virtual Surround over a optical Toslink connection, and I found out that Virtual Surround is really causing a poor signal quality on the rear speakers (obviously). Now, I have realized as soon as I try the formats in the Supported Formats menu, trying both Dolby Digital and DTS, the display lights up like this: [T]http://i.imgur.com/96uT6tA.jpg[/T] And this is how it lights up when playing games, even when they are set to 5.1 speaker setup, and music: [T]http://i.imgur.com/dpJ2cMy.jpg[/T] Now the question is, how can I make sure my PC audio will be encoded to Dolby 5.1, and cause the display to light up like in the first image when playing games? (When playing music I don't really care). Specifications: Motherboard: ASRock M3A770DE Home Cinema Receiver: JVC RX-E100R Connection used: Optical Toslink (S/PDIF) Thanks in advance.
It looks like your motherboard doesn't support DTS or DDL realtime encoding. You're probably gonna have to get a soundcard.

Damn, I should have known it, well looks like I'll get money together for one. Except, I don't have any experience with external DACs, which one should I get suitable for my needs? [editline]11th October 2013[/editline] Well, I just had the idea to look around, what about this soundcard? http://us.hardware.info/productinfo/31119/asus-xonar-dx#tab:specifications It has Dolby Digital Live!, but do I need both DTS and Dolby to get surround sound on all games? Saints Row 4 for instance is rated to have DTS surround.
That soundcard doesn't have a TosLink connection.
it does
It uses some weird adapter from X to TosLink, is this thing any good?
The adapter is just as good as a normal port, I don't know if the cards any good but xonars are generally decent cards
