That's a shame. It was really good
Agreed
A:I has got to be one of the most immersive games I've ever played in my life
From the dark, geometric like and claustrophobic interior of the Sevastopol, to the quaint humming of computers running idly in the background, the game pulls you in like no other even without a VR device.
Bloody criminal that A:I didn't do well. Easily the best horror game of the year.
That's the thing though, if you read the article it did do well, they're just apparently using it as a scape goat for something else (cough, sonic boom) or complaining that it didn't earn them a gajillion dollarydoos.
Isolation has sold 2.1 million in a year, both sonic boom games have sold a combined 600,000 and change. There's literally no reason for them to be blaming Isolation.
I find that impossible to believe
I wonder if they are going to use the profits to make the next big shitty sonic game
Man that fucking sucks I absolutely loved that game
What Alien: Isolation pulled off really well was that it was an alien game, and it didn't try to gussy it up with modernized doodads and whatnot. The aesthetic of the whole game felt very 70s/80s, and it was executed perfectly in terms of making you want to just leave.
If I weren't such a wiener I'd play the hell out of this.
It didn't do well according to their expenditures versus earnings. They expected the game to sell 5 million units over the launch quarter.

I guess it's possible that Isolation was more expensive to develop than Sonic Boom, seeing as that game was a complete mess and looked like bargain bin shovelware. Like, it's reasonable to believe Isolation didn't make back the cash Sega put into it.

Well, no shit it cost more, but the point is 2.1 million units in the amount of time it has been out is more than respectable and their reported "loss" (even though they made nearly a billion in profit this year) probably has more to do with their lower end products not selling well, rather than their big budget products not selling enough.
Isolation contributed 2 million units to Sega's total of 12 million units sold. It's pretty clear that they were a bit too optimistic with their expectations if 27X's post is right and they expected it to sell 5 million in the launch quarter. (nearly half of their total sales) If the game sold 2.1 million copies, assuming each unit cost 50 dollars, it made them $105,000,000 in roughly 7 months, which I suppose could be around what the game cost to make and market, but then we're getting into an entirely different issue.
Sega is doing a Squareenix I see. fuck sakes lower your expectations
If anything hurt the A:I sales themselves, it would be their piss poor job on the previous Alien titles.
Whilst the game deserves praise, they deserve the low revenue.

I assume after Colonial Marines hit, no one wanted to touch Isolation with a 10 foot pole. I'm hoping that good word of mouth gets the game more sales.
Yeah let's blame the Bafta award winning Sci-Fi horror game that did it right, Not to mention the first alien game that was, y'know, Alien.

Strap on the Huggies dude. It is so worth it. Playing with friends is even better.
Game publishers need to lower their standards. I believe that "a game has to sell a bajillion gazillion units in order to be successful" is toxic to the industry. That's just not a realistic goal. The market can only bear a handful of blockbusters and everything else is going to have to settle for second or third tier.
The most successful games aren't engineered. They arise organically.

Yeah, but games like these also cost bajillion gazillion to make, so no wonder they need crazy amounts of sales. Modern AAA titles are simply too expensive to make and market. You flop once and a big company like this is on their knees.
I don't know what they're complaining about or expect. Isolation sold more units than most of what Sega has put out in the last 20 years. It sold the same number or more than the Witcher, Witcher 2, Counter Strike Source, Sim City 4...
And it's certainly a better product than 95% of what they've put out
Not gonna lie I never preordered this title encase it turned out to be a another "alien colonial marines" I did pick it up on sale and loved it,
