My laptop is officially KIA, so I'm starting to look for a new one, and my only real limitations are that it has to be under $600, preferably around $500, and my grandpa wants to get it from Costco because we get an extra years warranty.
Right now I narrowed it down to the HP DV5T, and the G62X, but I don't trust myself 100% on picking out a laptop that I'm gonna have for hopefully a few years. I'll pretty much just be doing light gaming and video editing, and my last computer was a MacBook pro winter 2008 model.
Any suggestions
The two laptops I narrowed it down to:

I'd say dv5t
What happened to your MacBook Pro?
I sent it in to apple and they said it was water damaged, told them to send it back and now it won't boot
Did they say what kind of water damage was it? The screen, the keyboard, the "motherboard"?
They just said that it was liquid damage and my warranty was void, so I could either pay $1200 to get it fixed or not get it fixed. Seeing how I can get a better laptop cheaper, I opted to not get it fixed. I'm still calling corporate on Monday when they open to try and get something done but even if it does get fixed I'm probably gonna just sell it and put that money towards the new one.
you can get a better laptop cheaper? really?
sure with $1200 you can grab a laptop with an i5/i7 and a 5870/GTX 460
compared to a macbook's core 2 duo and 320m, that is.

You could try and fix it yourself first, you know. They should have told you what was damaged, though.
How are you planning to do light gaming and video editing with Intel HD graphics?
