Please look at the specs of this machine:

Then look at this:

The pre built is CHEAPER with the same specs from the manufacturer, ALSO with a warranty. Wtf Facepunch?
huh, now isn't that something
it doesn't come with an OS though, does it?

But neither does the custom built, so...
This is not really a "prebuild", it has been composed out of components you can buy it the store, therefore the builder of those PCs can get the components cheaper in bulk than the consumer can get it retail.
I see. So it's like a combo deal
but it comes assembled when you get it, so technically wouldn't it still be a prebuilt?
Weird. Well if it was me I'd build the system myself even if it was cheaper to get someone else to build it for me (assuming the difference is less than $50 USD) because it's just fun to build computers. Are there other prebuilts on that site that are cheaper than building it yourself?

Here in Canada, some of the HP prebuilts are cheaper than doing it yourself, when they're on sale.
But HP prebuilts have bad quality components, whereas this one seems to have reliable parts

No idea where you got this from, but all of the HP desktop prebuild I have worked with have reliable name-brand parts, and never had a single issue with any of the units. The only thing proprietary is the motherboard, and the BIOS is absolutely useless.

well then, I guess that's my lesson of the day.
