So, I didn't have my pc for a few months while we moved home and when I got it back the BIOS settings no longer save if I power it off (and by that I mean switching off the wall socket, not turning it off via shut down). If I leave the wall socket on it will retain the BIOS but since my roommate likes saving energy and I'm not paying rent at the moment, keeping it on is not an option. Do I have to replace my battery or could it be something else? I've checked if it was well seated and it is. Any ideas?
It wouldn't be a problem if it didn't do this to my desktop every time I start the PC.

Dead CMOS battery?
It's a year old computer at most. Do they die that quickly?

Oh and it if it helps, my mobo is an Asus Maximus III Formula
Either a dead CMOS battery or the CMOS jumper fell off/is plugged in wrong.
You could have had a bad battery. My father didn't believe me that his ~ 1 year old MoBo had a bad battery until he actually measured the voltage: ~1 V instead of 3.3 V.
Ok sorry for thread revival but I finally got around to buying a new battery and the problem hasn't been fixed. The jumper is correctly positioned and I don't see anything else that could be wrong. Any ideas (other than keeping the PC on).
