Promises are dangerous. Planetside 2 flopped because it didn't deliver. Let's hope he doesn't mess it up.
Yeah, promises are a marketing strategy. These guys can go fuck themselves as far as I care, no proof of them delivering a quality game beside Conquest.
Planetside 2's rollercoaster development has kind of made me tired of MMOFPS games before they are even a thing.

Just because one fucked up doesn't mean another can't do better.

Not about to bash every MMOFPS that gets greenlit for development, just a shame that such a high profile game doesn't really seem to know what to do with itself. Massively hyped as well.
Planet side 2 flopped? It looks cool to me.
Planetside hasn't flopped yet
It's..a bit unpolished. To say the least.

This sounds pretty awesome though. I won't hold my breath or anything however.
I don't like PS2 because I expected War not BF3 on a bigger map.
THIS at least has some interesting concepts behind it.
i could never enjoy PS2 because it ran like shit and looked like shit, so i couldn't see who was shooting me and none of my shots registered ever because everybody who is good at that game is some fucking wizard who plays on his hp laptop in brazil

That too
It's gotten better, but you still have to have a very specific hardware setup for it to run great.
He continues, “So certain races will be premium, and we’ll talk about this more, but right now I can guarantee the Ork Boyz will be free, because I want them to represent what they do in the IP.”
“Look at it this way,” he explains. “what’s the difference between how free players and paying players view each other? Paid players think of the free players as rude, uneducated about the game; noise on the line. That’s Ork boyz! So when an Ork Nob player gives an objective to his Boyz, ‘go attack the Space Marines here!” well out of 100 Orks thirty are going to say ‘yes boss!’ and the other seventy will do whatever they like. That’s Orks!”
That's brilliant.
i have very high expectations for a warhammer game; however, the idea does sound extremely promising
Please be good
We need a good non-RTS 40k game
I have a feeling the Tyranids and Necrons will be Premium then.
I have a feeling the Tyranids and Necrons will be Premium then.
Tyranids are questionable, they would seem to fall under the same line of thinking that the Orks do.
Necrons are also KINDA on the same line, though they accomplish their steamrolling by just being impossible to kill most of the time.
Though I would say Necrons will probably work like Space Marines, if they consider lore in creating a faction beyond the orks the Space Marines will be pay for only to keep their player population down as they are supposed to be heavily outnumbered 9/10 times.

Don't they follow hive minds?
Don't they follow hive minds?
I recall them saying the tyranid's were an AI controlled faction,I suppose in the future they could allow players to play as the tyranid elite units
Don't they follow hive minds.?
they DO, however hormagaunts are more or less equal to Ork Boyz in "swarm shit with overwhelming numbers"
So it would make sense to have then F2P as to have enough people for them to be considered a threat.
I recall them saying the tyranid's were an AI controlled faction,I suppose in the future they could allow players to play as the tyranid elite units
That also works
Tyranids have been confirmed earlier on to be AI and dev controlled (if they feel the war is all sorts of cocked up, they unleash the tyranids, kick everyone's asses and then fuck off back into the cavesystems of the planet, where they can be fought as pve content)
the "premium" factions are the space marines, chaos and eldar and most of the ork classes, guessing stuff like shootas, nobs, flash gitz and whatever
the only free option here are the ork boyz, basically cannon fodder, it's pretty incorrect calling this game f2p, this only really serves as a trial since they're aiming to make ork boyz take like 3-5 dudes to take down a single space marine (edit - looks like they're considering to make more options for free players, guessing stuff like eldar guardians, chaos cultists and scout marines)
other races/factions weren't talked about, aside from the sisters of battle which they didn't want to put in because of a certain lore incident where a chapter of them was slaughtered by grey knights (they're on the same side) so they could use their pure blood to prevent chaos corruption
I'm gonna buy this as long as I can be an ork kommando in an aloha shirt.

There are of course alternatives, you could say umbrella label Space Marines and the Imperial Guard into one faction as The Imperium of Man and have Guardsmen fill a similar role as the Ork boys do as the Men who shoot flashlights.
Also there probably is a progression planned out for the Orks and other F2P classes so it won't be "HEY YOU WANNA DO COOL SHIT? FUCK YOU GIVE US MONEY"
Tis not a good way to get new people to continue to play your game or start giving you money if you don't give them anything to do unless they give you money.
They could arguably unlock lower-level F2P classes such as Guardsmen/Guardians/Cultists for combat support roles over time. You would probably be limited to direct combat branch on such classes, so if you want to be a Commissar, you'll have to pay up.
Now, the question is - is it pay2unlock or monthly payments?
Afaik the premium factions will be pay once to play similiarly to Guild wars 2
Afaik the premium factions will be pay once to play similiarly to Guild wars 2
I am afraid that this model may mean that majority of items/abilities will be xp locked for the sake of immediate acquisition through paying means (not that I would know how this related to GW2, I never played/divulged much into it's financial transaction features).
Afaik the premium factions will be pay once to play similiarly to Guild wars 2
If that's true then I'm going to be happily spending all my money on this game.

I still want a sequel to Space Marine :v:
That was a good game, albeit short
I would like to think, if IG was included, Ogryn would be one of your end game choices as a F2P user.
Going by this interview, the only guidelines we have for discerning possible F2P or P2P Classes is "F2P users cannot be leaders" and "it must not cause a lore breaking situation with regards to population"
