"So we're going to show you a little bit of what gameplay will be like" as the game stutters and locks up.
Yeah that sounds accurate
I know it's not a finished build and all but it's still funny

I actually find it quite comforting to see the game running like that. I've become deeply sceptical of pre-release "gameplay" demos, particularly in the wake of Aliens: Colonial Marines, because they are often polished up just for the video and don't really represent what the final product will be. However, seeing the game in this state, played live, and seeing the features they've been promising is very reassuring.
Loving what they are doing with this. Makes me wanna jump on a pledge package more and more but the packages are pricey.
Looks like a must have once Oculus CV1 is out and this is out of early access.

Just get the Arena Commander package for $45 and don't buy into pricey ship crap like a lot of us do.
You get beta access and SQ42 (sp campaign) and Arena Commander. Then buy in the Alpha later or wait for the more polished beta.
Honestly, I cannot wait for the planet-side with multiplayer. At its most basic, I'd kill to be able to go sit around and socialize and see ships landing with people getting off of them etc etc. It's just so immersive. I've been waiting for this kind of game for ages.
Also, in the stream, the stuff they talked about with gear and hats etc looked pretty cool.
I can't wait for the Mass Effect mod.
This looks just like Freelancer only with millions spent on models.

Wait you're happy that a crowd funded game that has thousands of dollars put into it is shown off as buggy and not working correctly at every conference?

That is literally all I want out of Star Citizen. All the other stuff is just icing on the cake.

Throwing money at the game isn't going to make it perfect. You really think a game as ambitious as this will be perfect on the first try?

It would be perfect on the first try if they managed the game properly. The world they showed off shouldn't even look like that if not everything is working on it. Look at the combat module that barely worked as well. They should have started the modelling processes only after the gameplay was working as well as atleast one world. Instead We get trailers spoofing Top Gear and train wreck conferences. They're rushing into everything way too soon. Stuff like animating all the lights and foldouts on ships should have been one of the last things they did not one of the first things they show off.
That run animation was hilarious. Looks like he's about this shit himself and is clamping his butt cheeks tight trying to make it to the toilet in time.
It's good to see alpha gameplay that actually is alpha gameplay.

you realize that asset creation and programming are separate departments, right
it's not like they can get the modelers to help finish the space to planet transition. What are they going to do besides create assets?
Unless some major gameplay change is going to require them to change the little foldy bits in the future, it doesn't really matter when they're made. And even then that only impacts the artists, not the programmers.

The game is still a long way off being complete, and pretty much all of the issues in this video are ones that can be fixed with programming and asset optimisation, which always comes later in development.

Why would they just hold off on creating assets for the game for a few years for the sake of it? They have hundreds of planet side zones and massive capital ships to model, it's going to be one of the most time consuming parts of the project and there's really no reason not to start as it has no effect on the gameplay being made.
The pieces they generally show at conferences are buggy, but that's because it's usually an extremely early preview of a part of the game that they want to give people a taster of, they go into it knowing that bugs will likely happen and just hope that backers are rational enough to realise that.
