• HUGE splurge - need help with a top-of-the-line build

Well, I've saved up $16 thousand dollars from my part-time job at my dad's restaurant over the past three years, and I've decided to save half and spend half, since scholarships are pretty much taking care of college. I don't want to spend $8000 dollars on a rig, but I want to spend the majority of it on that. Can I get any more power by building my own PC? Can I get any more power for under $5000 dollars?

Op you could also add a second ssd in the build for more speed.
It is pretty damn pointless to spend more than around 1500 on a self build. Give the rest to charity, buy a car, but please don't blow it on a PC.
It is pretty damn pointless to spend more than around 1500 on a self build. Give the rest to charity, buy a car, but please don't blow it on a PC.
For you it may be pointless but for others its worth it.
For you it may be pointless but for others its worth it.
you don't need 5k to play games on a TV
I would have so much fun if I had $2000 to blow on a PC. [editline]04:45AM[/editline]
Op you could also add a second ssd in the build for more speed.
Ah-ha, put them in RAID 0.
For you it may be pointless but for others its worth it.
Explain how it's worth. It reaches a point where the more you spend the less bang for your buck you will get, spending ridiculous amounts on ultra high-end components that could be matched by a far cheaper, sensible build. This is based on the fact that it is a gaming PC.
Keep 1500 and stuff the extra money in a high yield savings account. If you keep putting money in there (say $250 a month) you'll be filthy rich by the time you retire.
Honestly, I have a $1350 build *including monitor* with a Phenom II X4 955/5870, and it'll max out any game I throw at it. Cod4, Left 4 dead 2, Team Fortress, Left 4 dead 1, etc. Don't spend more than $1500.

Just because you can, buy an i9. (when it releases, of course.) Also, is it possible to have more than two 5890's in crossfire?
Just because you can, buy an i9. (when it releases, of course.) Also, is it possible to have more than two 5890's in crossfire?
No you can't crossfire more than two 5890.
Aww :( Well, what about 5870's then?

I edited my post 5 seconds after i posted it. I accidentally wrote 4870 instead of 5870.
