This problem just started recently, happens while doing anything like Music, Youtube or games. The audio will cut out for a second or two then come back. Sometimes though if it happens in a game the audio won't come back for just the game, and you have to restart. Any ideas on what is causing this, I thought it might be the audio drivers but I have had the same drivers for a long time and they are all up to date.

I can hear it doing it when nothing is happening, its like the click sound that you hear when you mute and unmute.

Are you using a USB sound device? Or is this an onboard soundcard or dedicated soundcard?
USB headset, Steelseries Siberia V2s. USB Pnp Sound Device.
Onboard soundcard I guess, I do not have a dedicated one.
Sometimes my computer plays the just connected a device sound or the installing drivers sound right when it goes out.
I feel like this problem started after I installed Wastleland 2, its the first time I experienced the cutting out. It asked me if I wanted to install Razer 7.1 surround I think it was but I declined.
Any help at all? I cannot do anything without sound cutting out now, everything I do it cuts out. Music, youtube, games. I basically cannot enjoy using my computer. I don't know what to do.
I think the problem lies around my computer saying I can safely eject my hard drives. I have that notification saying you can safely remove hardware and in that it shows all three of my hard drives. That bud dum sound that plays when you connect something to your computer plays, I lose audio then it comes back. It will play again and I will lose sound and it will come back, the third time no bud dum sound plays and I just lose sound to whatever is playing, if I want sound back I have to refresh the page if its on the internet or restart the program if its a game or program.
Are you using all your USB slots? I wonder if you could somehow be overloading the bus.
Personally, I think USB audio is shit and it should be handled by the GPU/PCI/PCIEx1.
I have 4 USBs plugged in, two for my keyboard, one for my mouse, and one for my headset which is plugged into the keyboard.
If I look in volume mixer after the audio cuts out, any application that was playing sound no longer appears in the mixer.
Next time it happens, check the eventviewer (WinKey+R - Eventvwr.msc ; or type "event viewer" into the startmenu) check under system and see if there is anything regarding the audio in there. Like something saying hardware unplugged. make sure you do this right when it happens. if you have any questions about the items in there just feel free to post a screenshot of it.
Alright, I will check the next time it happens.
I had the same problem when I used a USB-headset, this is how I fixed it:
Open the device manager, find your USB-root hubs, right click on them, go to the "Energy savings" tab, and disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device in order to save energy"

This might have fixed it. My motherboard short circuited so I had to order a new one. I don't know if changing that setting fixed it or the new motherboard. It has not happened yet though. If the problem is gone for a few days I will mark this as solved.
Still doing it, here is the event log. I do not see anything regarding audio in it though. Lots of errors though. It is taking a lot longer to do it though, before it took mere minutes before I lost audio, seconds even. I was able to get in a 2 hour session of gaming before it cut out now. There is no event for the time that the audio cut out. System is full of adobe update starting and stopping.
