• BF3 - Possible bottleneck?

First off, apologies if this is in the wrong place, seems as good as any other place to stick this though. Onto the subject at hand, I'm getting the feeling that BF3 isn't running as well as it could. There are rare occasions (when fuck all is going on) that I'll get 60FPS, but, according to several FRAPS benchmarks (one minute each, mix of jets/tanks/ground pounding), the average is about 44/45FPS, lowest usually 32/35 (noticeably when caught in an explosion or in the middle of an effect like a dirt cloud). [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0p5ZZ.jpg[/img_thumb] The oldest components are the PSU (600w, has served me well so far) and the HDD's, 2 Samsung HD502IJ's, all from 2008. I'm wondering if the lack of FPS is HDD related, so I'm seeking a second opinion. Drivers, particularly GPU, are up to date (301.42), and I did replace the CPU TIM a few days ago to see if that helped (only marginally, the only thing it did do was lower the temps which I suppose is a result in of itself). If the consensus is a HDD related issue, then I can upgrade it but that brings its' own problems (which is best suited to the PC building section really). So, FP, what're your thoughts on this issue? Is it a case of shitty HDD's holding things back? Lack of PSU power (I'd have expected different results if this was the case though)? Or maybe my computer just generally isn't up to the task anymore.
The hard drive would only slow the game down for a short amount of time whilst it loads content but it won't be doing that all the time
Where does Windows have the paging file (virtual memory) setup? Where is the game located? Is it on the C drive with windows? If so, it would be worth a try to set the paging file onto the D-drive. If I have more than one drive, I keep the paging file on the opposite drive I am using. Now I did notice that you do have 12 GB of RAM and yes I would agree that you should not be paging, but this is Windows that we are talking about and what it does, does not always make sense.
I distinctly remember telling windows to move the paging file to the other drive but it seems to have moved back for whatever reason. I'll post results after I restart.
If you have 12GB of RAM, bf3 wouldn't even touch the pagefile. Unless you are a massive software hoarder and have everything set to run at startup.
T'bottlefield.
Any processes taking up alot of RAM CPU int he background? (Or is your CPU reaching 100% load while playing bf3?)
Paging file didn't seem to do much, however a noticeable improvement was made when I enabled adaptive vsync - now the game runs a bit faster and smoother. Just wondering if there's anything else I can do. Startup is fine, I'm pretty strict on that anyway. CPU I've not really checked. Will make a note to do so next time.
