• Buying a new PSU

Hey guys. I need a new PSU for the 660 TI im getting in a few days, my 350w power supply won't do the job. My current specs: Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D CPU: i7 870 quad core @2.93GHz RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz (only runs at 668Mhz, PSU's fault? I have no idea) GPU: nvidia GeForce GT430 (Can't wait to take it out of my PC) PSU: Some standard 350watt piece of crap that probably came with the crappy case! Budget:£55 I prefer to order from Ebuyer, and it has plenty of options for suggestions. I'm really inexperienced in Power supply and don't know whats compatible. I read about people complaining their PSU isn't modular in the reviews, so would that be good to have? As always, thanks for your time.
Have a 600W from Corsair. They became pretty stable and efficient these days. http://www.ebuyer.com/269259-corsair-600w-cx-series-v2-psu-6x-sata-2x-pci-e-cmpsu-600cxv2uk
A reviewer said "Do not consider purchasing this if your rig is built for gaming" but never said why, and have 10/10 Are you certain it'll do? His review scares me! Also, thanks for being here to help!
It'll be fine, that guy is a dumb ass.
That's what I hoped for. MSI GeForce 660TI and 600W Corsair CX PSU are ordered. My jimmies are being so rustled right now, thanks man!
How was your computer running on 350W? That's either scary or impressive.
He has a GT430... Those things hardly use 40 watts of power. [editline]9th November 2012[/editline] http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GT_430/26.html
A mid range gaming PC (i5-3570k and HD 7850) would only draw 215W max. Hell, an SLI GTX 670 setup with an i7-3770k wouldn't go over 450W.
£300 for this PSU and the GPU and I think I should have wiped my ass cheeks with the money instead... I don't know what the fuck is going on down there but whatever I buy or put in it, it never fucking performs like it should... i7 + 8GB ram + 660 TI = 17 - 45 FPS on Battlefield 3? What the fuck am I doing wrong? I'm so fucking down right now I can't believe it. Resolution? Newest drivers?
Newest drivers, can't sustain a good FPS on lowest settings 1024 X 768 when im meant to get 40+ on ultra at 1080p
Run furmark 1080p benchmark, post results. Also, do you defrag your HDD regularly? When I used to play BF3 it would read/write a lot and the FPS would suffer because the games just awfully optimized imo. Are your CPU temps good?
CPU temps somehow go to 90C + No idea why... good for a makeshift kettle though [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] Min: 28 Max: 950 (when I pressed spacebar and the iris looking thing in the center went away) average: 33 Ran for 20 minutes with no AA

When is it getting 90c? What's it at idle? Also, there's a benchmark setting on furmark, do that.
i thought i did the benchmark? its usually at 90 during and briefly after startup, and while gaming at idle its at something like 70c, I should probably invest in some fans... but actually I think Speccy makes the CPU have a heart attack... strange? [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] Some more information: Speccy shows my 8GB ram running at 668MHz when they are meant to be 1600MHz?
Your RAM is running at 1333~MHz, that's normal. You need to set 1600MHz in your BIOS.
^ if you do that, make sure the voltage is also set correctly. I ran it for 20 minutes, those are the results. Didn't give a score at the end, how do i properly end the burn in?
Benchmark Preset: 1080 I think the issue is the CPU overheating, though
I've put some thermal paste on the CPU's heatsink and made sure it is seated properly. Hope this will help! SCORE:1886 points (31 FPS, 60000 ms)
