Let's Plays are cancer.
Does anyone remember that episode of The Simpsons where Sideshow Bob repeatedly steps on a ton of rakes This article really reminded me of that

99% of the lets play community reminds me of an entire theater full of people shitting themselves all at the same time
Only good let's players are The Best Friends and Spike and Barley
I don't understand why anybody would want to watch people play Minecraft. That sounds like the most boring thing imaginable. There's no real game design to show off.
Only good let's players are The Best Friends and Spike and Barley
What about GG, or Oney, or Vinny?
Now I know how to get rich without any momentary effort put in!
People think this, and then try and do it and realize there is way more to it than just mumbling into a mic.
9. Puzzles & Dragons
I've never heard of this game?
Only good let's players are The Best Friends and Spike and Barley
Jessie Cox?
Only good let's players are The Best Friends and Spike and Barley
pewdiepie??
Only good let's players are The Best Friends and Spike and Barley
2bfp havent been good for a while now and SnB never put anything out
I don't understand why anybody would want to watch people play Minecraft. That sounds like the most boring thing imaginable. There's no real game design to show off.
For the same reason anyone would want to watch a Let's Play: the personality playing the game.
Also the point of Lets Play is not the fact that you are just watching someone play some game, the point is more that the person(s) actually give either useful information for how to decently play the game or they are just good at entertaining the crowd by being funny, giving lore from the game or other ways. There is a difference between a walkthrough and a Lets Play, sadly most people who stream/make Lets Plays are narrating every action they are already doing which completely defeats the purpose of a lets play. "Kay so i am just gonna... Chop this peace of wood right now.. .. Okay did that, now gonna craft a table" Yeah we know dude, we can watch you doing that.
Right, I was a bit ignorant of what goes into developing a LP, which does involve trying to make sure the gameplay feedback run smoothly, making sure the audio is clear, not having recording hiccups, editing, and a bunch of other technical things. Perhaps I might be hugely bias against LPs and how easily it has overcome other videos I felt deserve more recognition. Whoopsy.
You can make a let's play as terrible as you want, but unless it has some redeeming value, you won't go anywhere with it. You'll sit there with 9 subscribers and 22 views. It's fine to think that other content deserves more recognition, and I often do think that. But getting rich off LP's is just not as common as people think. There might be a few hundred or maybe a thousand or two gameplay channels that are fulltime jobs for those people and they can live off of it. But there are hundreds of thousands of LP channels which go no where. Even technical stuff aside, there is a lot more to marketing your content that I think people overlook. Edit: Also if MatPat from game theory is to be believed, YouTube's watchtime algorithm basically gives LP's a huge advantaged due to their ease of production and longer running time.

They're incredibly informative and provide funny and interesting commentary (when VoidBurger isn't in them at least). This one above is a bit old and Chip screws up with his commentary a lot, but it's still great.
Cr1TiKaL is the best let's player and no amount of titties will convince me otherwise.
Markiplier and NerdCubed are pretty good
Let's plays can be interesting. People like Two Best Friends, Retsupurae or even Plague of Gripes very often derive from just playing a game to essentially a podcast with a video game as a background.
Let's Plays are cancer.
Let's Plays can be good if they're done in a good way. You don't have to be a poodiepie creaming kid to do a fun let's play.
I prefer Let's Play videos where the only audio is from the game itself. But I do make some exceptions if the person playing isn't an obnoxious or boring tw@.
I always found NorthernLion to be a really entertaining Let's Player. Most of the others are just tough to handle which makes good gameplay videos hard to come by, especially ones without commentary.
I'm surprised Dota and League are even allowed on that list. I can say for Dota that the content that is of actual gameplay (that was not live broadcasted first) is at least 10% of the content. The rest is vods of tournies, top 10's or custom content. If I want to talk about my favorite let's players, I would have to definitely say Vinny and the Vinesauce crew. They make some genuine content, and a lot of the "hacking" stuff other people copied. For general gaming content, Game Grumps IMO are the best for that. Just recently because I have been a StarCraft fan, I have been loving what Day9 puts out for Hearthstone and random content. [editline]13th May 2015[/editline] The thing that is common about the three I mentioned is that they all have great ways with words (a little less true with Vinny) and always have a great thing to talk about rather than screaming.
Let's Plays can be good if they're done in a good way. You don't have to be a poodiepie creaming kid to do a fun let's play.
got any examples of "good" let's players?
lets plays are good if they are funny and not just someone playing a game giving their commentary. lets players just remind me of playing games with a friend. I wouldn't watch someone play through something like zelda or minecraft but I would watch someone play some obscure game and crack jokes or speed runs.
got any examples of "good" let's players?
Chip Cheezum. his MGS let's plays are a blast to watch and i've learned a lot from all of them.
I've never heard of this game?
It's a mobile game apparently Ok
Puzzles & Dragons is huge in Japan. Nintendo is even making a Mario-themed Puzzles & Dragons game.
The best Let's Plays are the ones where the guy playing really knows his shit about the game in question. For example, Research Indicate's LP of Trespasser. It's short, to the point, and the guy playing is good at the game while also sharing cool info about the game. The perfect LP. I can't stand LP's where they dude playing fucks around and doesn't know shit. Nothing is more agrivating than watching an LP of a game you find interesting but don't own and the LPer is a bumbling loon.
