.4% isn't that bad, it's nowhere near the 54% the 360 had.
But Sony said that it's 0.04%
The number of affected systems represents less than .04% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.

But Sony said that it's 0.04%

Correction: Note that the statement originally provided to IGN by Sony mistakenly said ".04%." A Sony representative has now confirmed to IGN that this figure was provided in error, and it has been corrected to ".4%."
So how many units have been shipped so far?
So how many units have been shipped so far?
4000 known from the Taco Bell people plus whatever amount of units reviewers have, we'll probably have more accurate numbers tomorrow after the US release.
So currently, there're about 16 hardware-failure PS4s out there, at an estimate. That's barely any at the moment; almost no worries to be had until the adoption rates skyrocket, in which case that .4% failure rate could definitely do with some tightening up, even if it's amazingly better than the disaster-course of the 360 launch.
When the 360 launched my consoles was DOA, wouldn't turn on, and the next five replacements were either DOA or got the RROD. It wasn't until my seventh console I got a working one which then got the RROD a little over a year later.
I hope my bad luck with lauch consoles was used up by the 360.
.4% failure is normal for electronics
the wii and ps3 had the same failure rates

Wow, that's really harsh. My first 360 RROD'd because I was out of town and my sister didn't turn it off during the week I was gone. My second one had a root beer spilled all over it and it still works perfectly fine today. Then again, maybe I'm just lucky.
i'm convinced that the 360 was one of the absolute worst pieces of technology ever made
The Xbox 360 is the only console I've ever had problems with, and I had 2 fail.
I bought one 2 years after the release and died after 2 years of extensive use, I got a free replacement which died 2 years afterwards. I bought a new 360 Elite which worked like a charm.
Hope that the PS4 will be a solid piece of hardware, some friends of mine said that the controller feels reall cheap and tiny in your hands.
some friends of mine said that the controller feels reall cheap and tiny in your hands.
That's incredibly wrong.
It's feels pretty damn solid, way better than the DS3 for sure.
I had a launch day 360 I picked up from Walmart that night, and it worked for years until right after they released the Elite when a thunderstorm rolled in and a powersurge fried it. The Elite I replaced it with still works, though the GPU is damaged so sometimes games fuck up graphically. But I replaced it when they released the Slim. That also stills works to a point. The disc drive died literally like three days after the release of GTA V, and I wasn't going to wait to have it repaired so I just took tons of old games and traded them in and got a new one at like half price. I've never actually had a system Red Ring. Its been either outside circumstances or an issue that, while not preventing it from functioning, made it an unappealing or very difficult option.
Well, it looked fairly solid in the footage that I've watched. I might try it at a store somewhere.
My PS3 though? Fucking hell, that thing has taken incredible abuse and acts like nothing has happened.

my local gamestop has a ps4 with the knack demo on it and i played with it for maybe 10 minutes. i absolutely fucking hate the ds3 with every fiber of my being and the ps4's controller is at least as solid if not more so than the 360's controller. the triggers feel incredible and i can't put into words how happy i am that they went with concave sticks this time. that being said, i'm probably not even going to own another console as long as i live, but from what i saw, i might be buying a ds4 to use with my computer over my 360 (or xbone) controller.

Personally, I think that the 360 controller is a great piece of hardware that combines design and usability perfectly together. I never had any problems with it except for the horrible d-pad. Everything just feels right, from the layout to the weight. So it's hard for me to think that the ps4 controller can surpass that.

Having played a PS4 as well, I can attest to his praise for the DS4. The thing is a massive upgrade to the DS3.

Since I emulate video games I favor the PS3 controller over the X-Box Contoller. The PS3 controller is usable within pretty much any context, whether it be emulated games, fighter games, first person shooters, or etc. (At least in my use.)
The X-Box 360 controller is great for anything that doesn't need an analog stick, and playing through The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords is incredibly awkward with an analog stick. For that reason, the PS3 controller is better simply because it functions alright across the board.
The only problem is the price for a PS3 controller (yeesh) and the lack of nice PC drivers. (yeesh - also don't use MotionInJoy, everyone)
Also, in terms of the PS3 vs. X-Box in how well it's lasted, I've had two X-Box 360's red-ring before I stopped buying them. My PS3 took from December 2006 to about July 2013 to break, and I'm not kidding. While it can be debated whether the operating systems and the specs of each are better or worse than each other, the build quality of the PS3 was pretty damn good in contrast with the X-Box 360.
I'm really interested in what the failure rate for the X-Box One will be.
Thanks, I have to agree with you. The xbox controller is awkward to use in emulators.
Also I didn't know that you could see in the future.
4000 known from the Taco Bell people plus whatever amount of units reviewers have, we'll probably have more accurate numbers tomorrow after the US release.
4000 shipped from that, and I played like, what, 10 times? Damn it.

Thanks, fixed. My PS3 didn't break in 2016, haha.

I think the 360 controller is better, but I don't have any problems with Dualshock 4. I hated DS3, but DS4 is pretty great.

and this shit is exactly why I'm waiting a really good time, at least a year or a half, until I even think about a new console personally
my current PC is just too rocking to think about a console period.
.4% failure is normal for electronics

to add
a .4% failure rate to me sounds like absolutely unavoidable shit like a GPU just happening to have 1 wire being misplaced and ruining the entire thing making it a DOA
just because the power button wasn't plugged into the motherboard, or the fan is unplugged or put on backwards causing horrible overheating issues, the system easily bricks.
So that's 4 out of 1000, so out of the 4000 Taco Bell consoles there are ~16 failures which isn't too bad really.

And here my original Xbox 360 has been working without fail. I think the laser that reads the disc is getting worn out though. Games lock up way frequently when being read from disc, but the lockups stop when you install it to the HDD
0.4%, huh?
Not bad at all.
