I have an ECS Nettle3 2.2 motherboard. Is it going to be worth my time to purchase a Intel I7 and just replace my current processor with it, or should I just purchase a new motherboard as well? (My current processor is a AMD Anthlon X2 5200+) Im really trying to not have to purchase both, as funds are kinda limited. If you guys think I need a new Mobo, what runs along great with an I7?
If you currently have an AMD Athlon X2, then the i7 isn't going to fit in the socket. You need a new motherboard.
You could get a cheap $50-100 motherboard, which will be fine assuming you don't want to run multiple video cards or want fancy extras like USB 3.0, powerful integrated graphics and onboard sound with optical out and enough outputs to run a 7.1 surround sound system.
EDIT: You could save a few bucks by going with an i5, which is still an excellent CPU line. What you're not getting in that reduced price is the hyperthreading, which can help out certain applications (Mostly rendering and other heavy duty stuff). The i5 2500k is a good CPU from what I've heard.

Thanks for the response man. Much appreciated. So what type of motherboard would support the socket type of the I7? or alternatively, what would go with the I5?
Get this combo, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.642531
or http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.642521 if you insist on an i7, there are better motherboards though, depending on your budget.

Also you case size matters. mATX will fit anything most likely, but the one with the i7 is a full ATX
Thanks Shadaez, and thanks to you benjgvps as well. It would have taken me forever to compile that information myself. :buddy:
