Hello,
Just to clear things up, I'm not much of a techie. :tinfoil: I wanted to install windows 8 on my tiny-bit-old XP computer. The disk drive is shot so I made a bootable USB. When I plugged it in and restarted, nothing changed, so I tried again and hit F8 a lot to make it boot from USB. Still, nothing changed.
So I decided to change the boot order and made #1 the CD drive, #2 "USB HDD" and (idiotically) #3 CD drive again. Saved and exited to a black screen. "Oh." So I shut it off using the good ol' hold-the-power-button and restarted. Black screen. Not even anywhere to push Delete to get to BIOS. It's just stuck on a black screen. I've tried restarting and unplugging to no avail. Where do I go from here?
Thanks, any help appreciated.

Well I fixed the bios issue, it just needed a 20 minute rest and a discharge. Is it supposed to be USB FDD? There are multiple USB- things to boot from. Does a black screen mean it's working? I'm assuming it doesn't, so that's why I just quit and try again if it's black.

OK well this is kind of a circular thread. Anyway, fixed the problem by just booting into XP normally, inserting the USB, and double clicking on the .exe  LOL
It's currently installing next to me. So exciting!
Alright, I have a new problem. It was installing fine and it had to restart itself, so it did but it ends up with a black screen again. It seems to restart fine if you do the resetting thing, but I guess it doesn't like turning off and on again quickly - it needs a bit of a rest. So when the Windows 8 installer restarts, it just reboots to a black screen. I tried turning it off and back on again (after a while) and it boots to the Windows 8 symbol, and then it says "Your computer needs to restart, please hold down the power button"
So I do, let it rest, turn it back on, and it does it again. So now I'm stuck again. :/ Anyone heard of a computer that can't reboot, but can shut down (wait a while) and start back up?
What are the specs of this tiny computer?
Ah, good question. Not entirely sure, because the last CPU-Z I did was a while ago. See if I can remember:
AMD processor, around 2GHz
1GB ram
Onboard graphics
80GB HDD (LOL)
Also, it isn't tiny, it's
tiny-bit-old
aka ancient
