I was updating my drivers for the different things on my computer, and while going to see if there was an update for my i5 Core 3230M processor, I also found Intel Diagnostic tool. My computer was running slowly, and was hoping if this program would help me figure what's going on. It ran a diagnostic test and the test failed at the processor test, where the expected frequency for the processor was 2.6 Ghz, but it only reached 1.2 Ghz. I don't know why this would be happening, as the laptop is barely a year old.
Any suggestions?
Probably due to overheating, which causes the CPU to throttle.
Download HWMonitor, and post the temperatures
So I've been using HW Monitor for the past few days, and for no apparent reason, my CPU temperatures go from 45/50 to 55/65 degrees celsius. I don't know what causes this occur, though.
What laptop do you have? You should check if your laptop is in some power-save mode as well, and do you run your laptop without the battery?

I have an Asus G46VW with power-saving off. I got it about a year ago brand-new. I have not taken out the battery, and I usually have it plugged in when I'm using it and I don't keep it on at night nor do I charge it at night.
