Last night, after getting a new DS game for Christmas, I decided to give my DS a cleaning after I hadn't used it in a month or so.
I used the same cleaning solution that I always did on both screens, wiping away dirt and smears.
However, I turn it out, and the top screen is completely fine. The touch screen, is two different brightnesses; one bright, and the other is blotchy and darker.
I figured that somehow this solution got inside the DS's touch screen. I left it open to try and let it dry out, and when I went back to check this morning after about 6-8 hours after the initial blotch, the huge spot is gone, only to be replaced with smaller blotches dotting all around the screen, with a bigger blotch 2/3s the size of the original spot seen when you look at the screen at another angle.
My question is this; is there any chance at all that the DS's touch screen will dry out and return to normal? Should I try to leave it out to dry longer, because that seemed to be working, or should I send it in to Nintendo for repairs? My DS is currently off, and open, in an attempt to dry.
I really don't want to spend money on this problem, but I will if I must.
On another note, has anyone else used Nintendo's repair system? Do they send you your console back after repairs, or send you a shitty refurbished one? How's the service?
Thanks for the help.
this is why you use those hand wipe things only
Well, I used those initially, but the cleaning solution I've been using for a year now on my DS, and nothing's happened until now. The DS became cleaner for longer.
I tried checking it now, and the spots move around, some dissappeared, some got slighter bigger, so I don't know what to make of it.
The touch screen itself works fine, and both personally and oddly, I think better than before. Only problem is the spots.
So, what should I do?
Leave it to dry. I got water all over mine and left it for three days and it worked like a charm. Leave it open and in a bowl of rice.
Should I leave it on as well, so the heat from the screen drys it as well? Or is that a bad idea?
Leave it off.
Leave it off, pull the battery.
Is it under warrenty? If not, open the case and leave it out. If it still doesn't fix, it will cost ~$10 bucks to replace the screen and touch pad.
I just use spit n polish method for any mobile device screens, DS, phone, works for me.

Must smell like shit.
Assuming its an alcohol based cleaner you should be fine if you let it dry properly. One of the ways people dry it is putting it in a sealed container of uncooked rice and it will draw any moisture into the rice and out of the device.
A lot of people recommend propanone or ethyl alcohol to do the job.
