Me and a friend are staying away for a week over the new year. We've both got laptops, but our internet usage is pretty limited (it's one of those mobile internet things and we only have it for one laptop). What we were thinking of doing is playing some games over a network, and I was just wondering how we might go about doing this? My knowledge of networks is pretty limited so I don't really know what I'm doing in that respect, hell I'm not even sure if it's possible to do with only one laptop that has an internet connection.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it's mobile internet, so I think it's capped at about 15gig/mo. We only want to play local games between the two laptops, so I'm not sure if it's gonna effect the internet usage.
So does anyone have any ideas? If you need any more info just ask
also I posted this in fast threads just, I thought I'd repost it in the right place
Wait, so you both are going away together, at a house or apartment or something?
Can't you just plug an Ethernet cord into both of your laptop Ethernet ports?
I might be wrong, because I've never done it.

This or set up an ad hoc wireless network (the cable is easier so use it if you have one).
Laymen's terms please, haha.
I've got an ethernet cable, so what would I do with it? Just connect the two laptops via the ethernet port?
Yes. Once Windows figures out the connection you should be good to go, LAN games hosted on one computer will be visible on the other.
And this doesn't use the internet at all? If not then that sounds ideal.
We were planning on running a few games over the network, some older games like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, etc. Do you just create a local game and it'll appear in the LAN tab of the server browser for the other person?
Yes to both questions.

Just make sure your firewall isn't blocking the games.
It shouldn't be. Thanks for your help, hope it works!
-snip- Never mind, I thought you wanted to share the internet connection.
