Not too shabby. Glad they're sticking with the tried and true dualshock design.
Looks like a more "heavy duty" version of the Dualshock, like it went from something you'd find from Sharper Image to something you could throw off a building and still have it be okay. I'm alright with that, it looks a little more ergonomic as a result. But one question remains...
DID THEY FIX THE CONVEX TRIGGERS?
I'm pretty skeptical about this, fake controller designs usually pop up when a new console is being made, remember the days when the Wii wasn't released yet and was called the Nintendo revolution?

Yeah but the thing pictured above appears to be a real, physical thing, and it would be expensive to fake something like that.
DualShock is a good controller template, even if like most modern controllers it still only has 4 face buttons. Good to see Sony's sticking with that tried-and-tested format for the Orbis.
Also, relating to the whole 4 face buttons thing, I kinda wonder why we haven't advanced to 6? Surely it can't be because people don't know how to handle more than 4 buttons; PC gamers work with keyboards that have roundabout 100 buttons (I actually counted; roundabout 100 minus the Windows keys), and they can use a mouse that usually has upwards of 3 buttons (mine has 5, with the mouse wheel having up, down and press, and that's a very basic model in the modern day). And even then, most modern console controllers have 4 face buttons, 2 analog sticks, a D-pad that counts as 4 more buttons, and around 4 shoulder buttons; this adds up to 12 buttons, 14 in the case of certain analog sticks that have a button function when you press them in. (this excludes the)
Surely if we can deal with 14 buttons on a single controller, we are capable of dealing with an extra 2 or 3 face buttons? Maybe it's a matter of space then? In which case if the controller was just a little bit bigger, we could probably squeeze 2 more face buttons into the face zone area without the risk of accidentally touching 2 face buttons at once with our mighty gamer thumbs.
Just sayin' that we could technically increase the number of functions one can perform in a console by designing the face button region so that it has enough real-estate for 6 face buttons that aren't too taxing to press.
Im waiting for the day they just replace the D-Pad with a set of 4 buttons.

Have you ever though what shapes Sony would put on their controller tho
*Face buttons
DualShock is the worst

Heathen.

I think all the consoles have nice controllers.
But fuck the N64 thing. That god damn beast.

The N64 controller was designed for Vortigaunts.

An aesthetic thing, whilst a trivial barrier to overcome, is still a barrier. We have Circle, Square, Triangle, Cross, so the extra face buttons would need to express other geometries. Perhaps Star and Diamond could fit the face button icon roster?
I like the analog sticks, and that it's wider, but that d-pad makes me want to throw up.

They would have to be distinct enough not to lead to any confusion. Hexagon is ruled out then because it might look too closely to a circle.
Parallelogram maybe? Diamond might also be a good one.
What if that black IR looking thing is a touchscreen?
I like how they cut off the picture that shows an idea of what each component is, because you notice the blue 'glow' at the top ? Probably for move.
needs more boomerang controller

What the fuck was Nintendo even thinking
All the kids have three hands

To be fair though, the Gamecube controller was one of the best controllers ever made.
The N64 controller was so fucking easy to use, you'd have to be either a moron or have never actually held the damn thing if you think it was a mystery to use.

The main problem with it was that if your hands were big enough, it could get a bit cramped using the analog stick handle, similar to playing games on a Gameboy SP. I've never had that problem, but my older brother seemed to.
I dunno, I was like 6 when I got my N64. I didn't have a problem. :v:

Only problem I had with the N64 controller was that the analog stick would break pretty fast. Then you'd have to push incredibly hard for it to do anything.
The dreamcast controller remains to be one of the worst controllers in existance
Great premise, awful execution. VMU's were pretty badass. Not to mention how badass the console was in every other regard

Whoever thought it was a good idea to make it so that only those with three hands could access all of the buttons at once was an absolute moron.
I don't think that's a prototype. I'm pretty sure they're aftermarket controllers for the ps3.

All it needs now is Slow and Turbo buttons
and to be luminous blue
