• iTunes- Moving to another Computer w/o losing songs
    24 replies, posted
Hello, I recently lost my computer due to viruses. I bought a new one. I got a bunch of songs from my friends laptop onto my iPod. I know that when I put iTunes my iPod will automaticly sync with the new library, erasing all my songs. Since Apple can be incredible asses, i can't copy that music to my old computer. Is there anyway I can take my current library and copy it to my new computer without losing all my songs? Thanks, ans sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

When you install iTunes, you can set it to not sync if you plug in an iPod. Do that, enable usage as a hard disk drive and copy the songs from the hidden folder.
Don't help him, let him figure it out on his own.
Nah, I'm gonna help him because I happen to know people who lose all their music because they don't know what to do. No one needs to go through that.
Yes, the OP has needlesly spent alot of money. But if anyone else doesn't want to help - DON'T REPLY. You've been warned, it's 7 days next time.
I didn't needlessly spend a lot of money- I've need this computer for a while, as my current is crap. And I would copy/paste, but ever computer I've plugged it into thinks its a camera. I've tried fixing it.

It doesn't mean anything, it's just a label.

It won't actually let you access the files on the iPod. You can only retrieve pictures off of it. You can't enable file storage since iPhone OS doesn't use FAT32 like other iPods do. OP there are some programs that allow you to read the songs on the iPod Touch and transfer them over.

No I don't think I can do it. I can do whatever I want. All of them?

That's what happens with the iPhone/iTouch.

1.Connect the iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it. 2.In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod. 3.In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders." 4.Navigate to the Music folder. 5.Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes Hope this helps

Other iPod models do.
You have to get external media like a disc or an external harddrive and put it from your friend's laptop to that ipod touch can't move music from pc to pc.

Then your shit outta luck.
*curses*
This laptop in on the other side of the continent.
You could compress the songs into a .zip or .rar and upload them to a file hosting site such as mediafire.com. [editline]12:19AM[/editline] And for future reference, if your computer gets a virus. It is by no means no longer usable. You just need to extract it using a HDD mount or get rid of it with a simple format. [editline]12:19AM[/editline] You didn't have to buy another PC.
did anyone else think troll?

Go get sharepod (http://www.getsharepod.com/download/) you can use this to get music off of ipods and onto your computer. This is really the best way of copying music from ipods because if you do a straight copy/paste it doesn't save file names, instead all the songs will have names like "FMJS, or PXQZ" and so on
