What would be better for mostly gaming, and some video rendering? I have an aftermarket heatsink also so overclocking is an option.
wait one month for sandy bridge
I have an am3 board and wont be changing it
I have a X6 1055T, not very good to be honest. I would go with the Phenom II X4 965.
965.
I have an am3 board and wont be changing it
Then wait for Bulldozer.
Then wait for Bulldozer.
Bulldozer is on a different socket.
955BE is best option
Bulldozer is on a different socket.
AM3+, will work on AM3. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline]
955BE is best option
If he wants to buy now, I agree.
AM3+, will work on AM3.
nope.avi If you have to buy now though, get the 965 (or 955). I have a 1055T and most of the video encoders I've used have only used 4 cores despite being set to 6 threads or more.

so the 955BE then? Because i am buying now. also where the hell can i get one, sold out on newegg. I cant find the BE version.
965.
955. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
so the 955BE then? Because i am buying now.
Get it. Right now.
so the 955BE then? Because i am buying now. also where the hell can i get one, sold out on newegg. I cant find the BE version.
If you can't find it, you could get the 965 if it is in stock. Do you live in USA or Canada?

1055T @ 3,4GHz or so should be easily attainable depending on your 'aftermarket cooler', atleast that's where I got mine with a CM Hyper 212+ and I'm not even pushing it. That combined with a decent northbridge overclock will result in performance better than a 965, since you have the extra two cores for multi-tasking just in case your renderer doesn't support more than four cores, and if it does then it's a bit under 50% faster. Buying a quad is kind of silly when you can get the same clock speeds + two more cores for the same price IMO, but that's what everyone is doing. *shrug*

A 965 isn't hard to beat at all with a 955.
I never said it was, I said getting a quad over a hexa isn't a smart move IMO.
I never said it was, I said getting a quad over a hexa isn't a smart move IMO.
If all you're doing is gaming, yes it is. Any quad core will outperform the AMD X6s because they are shit.
I never said it was, I said getting a quad over a hexa isn't a smart move IMO.
You need to research deeper. Extra cores doesn't mean you perform better. For future reference.
Gaw;26560165']wait one month for sandy bridge
Fucking stop. That has nothing to do with what he asked.
Fucking stop. That has nothing to do with what he asked.
It has everything to do with what he asked. Prices will drop.
I'm saving for a bulldozer setup.
965 is a powerhouse which actually has full support for all its cores, unlike the 1055T, I'd go with that. I suits me well anyway.
I'm saving for a bulldozer setup.
Just wait until both Sandy Bridge and Bull Dozer come out. Then you can know for sure what to get.
