So this is a problem i've been noticing lately, I would download a 1080P wallpaper (as I got an 1080P screen) and it would look really nice, yet when I would set it as my wallpaper it will jpeg rape it, while the original file still looks perfect. Is there any reason why it's doing that? And is there any way I can stop that.
If your OS is Windows 7 and you use Firefox...
Open the image in Firefox. (Just drag the image file into the window)
Right click on it and click "set as desktop background."
And ta-dah.
Windows 7 JPEG rapes everything and every file type you set it as.
What I listed is a good workaround for Firefox users.
I usually just save my wallpapers as a 100 quality JPG before setting them and don't notice any jpeg rape

That did indeed fix the problem, but I have my wallpaper set to rotate every 5 minutes. I would like to keep that, is that possible..?
Not really. I've tried every setting I can for fixing Windows 7's joy of shitting JPEG turds all over my wallpapers but I can't find a viable solution, just temporary ones.
OR! You can use a BMP file.
Nope.
I tried, man. It does the same thing with that. It doesn't matter what image type you use, it still shits all over it.
This is the only reason I can say "Fuck you, Windows 7."
Other then that I don't mind it.
Goddamned.
How are you applying it?

Judging by what I have experienced, it doesn't really matter how you apply it.
Using Firefox is the only fix I've found, and I use Firefox all the time to change wallpapers.

I've never had this issue, yet I see it reported all the time. I tested it again after seeing this thread. By control panel and by right clicking. Both retain their quality.
I do it in the control panel where you can select your theme, I set wallpaper and choose a folder and select all the files in it, then I set it to rotate every 5 minutes and have my images centered (some things are probably wrong, i'm using a dutch version of windows 7).
Doesn't this also happen with vista?
Go to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper and make a new folder there. Put your wallpapers there. Then there will be a new tab in "Windows Desktop Backgrounds". Use that and you can have your 5minute rotation with no JPEG rape.

Sorry for the bump but that doesn't help, it still rapes the quality.
