I'm using an 8800 GTX and can't get my resolution higher than 1024x768 on a 1600x1200 monitor. I am using latest drivers with no luck. Tried using older ones and same thing. Any ideas?
Usually you can force resolutions through the command line, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Ask the mint forum?
This has happened on every distro I've tried x_x
post output of xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default

you'll probably have to add the mode to your xorg.conf then

what drivers are you using?
Most recent, 258 or something I think
no for what card, are you using proprietary or open source etc.

Sounds like it's vesa drivers.

Proprietary. It should give you resolutions over 1024x768.
Look through and/or post the contents of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log -- that'll have the details about what drivers are being used and the process of video mode selection.
