My PCIe port is dead, likely because of my shitty water cooling system, so I'm killing two birds with one stone here.
Here's the motherboard I'm looking at:

Here's the CPU cooler:

I have an AM2 processor so I'm pretty sure it will all work. I'm getting some AS5 on top of it all because we have no thermal paste any more, and I don't feel like using toothpaste :v:
Mobo is to be coupled with 4GB of DDR2 RAM (2 sticks) and a HD 6850.
Looks good, what CPU do you have?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Black Edition something or other 3.2GHz dual core. I changed the cooler to this:

a $20 rebate is good shit
the hyper 212+ is better than that
the hyper 212+ is better than that
yeah but with the rebate and free shipping the Dark Knight seems to be a better deal
Depends on if you want the extra performance from the 212+
WHy would you even buy a cooler for that CPU? And if you're upgrading your motherboard, then for god's sake get a better CPU.

My CPU is fine
The 212 has more heatpipes so I guess I'll drop the extra $$$ on that

Besides, my budget is $150 and with the mobo, cooler and AS5 it's $119.94 shipped, can't spend $30 on a better processor
Try searching ebay for good deals on an Athlon II or Phenom. It will almost certainly be better than an Athlon 64 x2.
My processor is fine, I think I'll get the 212+ because of it's adjustability and extra heatpipes, bringing me to a total of... $112.30

Aaaand, ordered, thanks guys.
"Stop recommending rather necessary upgrades because I'm going to ignore you and continue anyways thanks guys ttyl"
Hey OP, that CPU cooler would actually do something if you seated it on one of these.

Too late, the OP moron'ed out the backdoor 17 hours ago.
I haven't had any bottlenecking due to my processor, games still run fine as ever. I don't need a new CPU, fuck off.
Besides, I came here to ask for some recommendations for a new motherboard and CPU cooler because that's what I need, if I needed or wanted recommendations for a new CPU I would have asked.
A new CPU was not reasonable under my budget either.
lol Athlon 64 with a 6850
whether you choose to acknowledge it or not there is a bottleneck, and with a better CPU you'll definitely see a noticeable improvement
Sure, I guess I'm more frustrated that instead of answering the question I initially proposed, people chose to recommend a new CPU, which was not important at the time (as you kinda need a working motherboard first)
At least I got an AM3 compatible motherboard right? :v:
Ok, so just try to upgrade the CPU as soon as possible, I guess.
I second the x4 635; surprisingly enough it runs GTA IV better than my q6600 @ 3.2
At $100, doesn't seem too bad. I'll think about it next time I get paid.
