I have a fairly old desktop (6 years) that I am giving to my brother. The thing is that he needs internet and is quite far from the router so a hard line is not possible. Is there some kind of wi-fi card I can put in the computer to make it receive wifi signals and connect wirelessly?
Yes. There's PCI that goes inside of the computer, there's USB adapters, and finally, there's wireless APs.
Or just do what I did and run a 100' Cat5e through the house. My mom didn't like it.

Something like this?
If it were my house I would just run a cable but my mom would't let me. IMO cables and stuffs running everywhere looks awesome and techy.
Yeah, but make sure you have a PCI slot.
