A friend recently bought a new alienware m17xc4 laptop, it works fine, but when it is connected to power supply (and sometimes working with battery) the right speaker makes regular 'ticks', and the sound stop working or is distorted in between those ticks.
If we use headphones the ticks go on, but the sound is fine.
we are waiting for technical support answer, but do you have any idea of why this happen or how can be quickly fixed?

Get a refund, anything made by alienware are timebombs.
I agree with Pepper. You really should try to get a refund. General rule of thumb: Alienware is shit.
ok, some different opinion?
nobody has idea of whats wrong with his laptop?
have you got any alternative suggestion for a gaming laptop?
should i assume dell's service is as good as alienware one?
For gaming laptops, Clevo.

Dell actually owns Alienware.

The reason is written right on it.

Well since Dell OWNS Alienware I bet you should be able to figure that out yourself.

You bought an Alienware computer, issue found.

Look at the Asus G75 series.

Alienware is shit.
But there is something that I can suggest from working with Dell Laptops. Recently Dell released a new audio driver for some of their older laptops. This driver was exactly the same as its previous except for the inclusion of "Battery-saving feature."
This feature simply shuts down connection to the laptop speakers when not in use (Which apparently is every 10 seconds), but since Dell-manufactured speakers suck, they create a annoying tick or pop noise whenever turned on or off. Even if plugged in.
That is why the headphones would still work as they won't use that feature. This is the only thing I could think of besides that your friend's laptop is a Alienware peice of shit.
The solution would be to disable the feature by finding the driver software installed or reverting to older drivers. Which finding Alienware drivers BLOWS.

I've actually heard that Alienware laptops aren't so bad. Obviously you shouldn't buy an Alienware desktop though.

Ugly looking laptops to be honest but the hardware/software isn't bad. I bought an alienware once only because I had a crap ton of discounts from the dell outlet that netted me an $800 MX11 for $400. For such a tiny laptop it's pretty awesome and runs really well, also very little bloatware which is a huge plus. But I do find their standard pricing just a tad too high so unless there's a 25% or 30% coupon it's just not worth it.
What the shit do people have against Alienware? Bunch of hardware hipsters right here.
What the shit do people have against Alienware? Bunch of hardware hipsters right here.
Because their hardware quality are shit and only hipsters like their ugly design. In another word, you're the hipster here, not us.
But no really, get rid of the alienware. It's pretty well known that they're shitty.
basically its an overpriced dell
just try to get a refund on it. you and your friend may not be bothered, but when you get a better laptop instead it will have been worth the effort

I don't own one but I've never had a reason to avoid them. What I own is an XPS because I also don't like the look of Alienwares even though they pack better hardware for the same price.
I owned an Asus G75 and that was a poorly built pile of junk. Returned it within a few days of getting it.
Thank you all for the info
i'll speak to him about this

pff, yeah right. at least the G75 doesn't have hinges straight from scooby doo.
I've had to repair alienwares before, every corner that could be cut was cut.

My G75 has made it throught some shit lol, Been using it in afghanistain for the past 8 months and someone even steped on it when the lid was closed. Didn't even fuck the screen up.
EDIT: not saying you should go close your laptop and walk on it, I got lucky lol.
Apparently Afghanistan is really dusty, how did it cope with temperatures?

I made the mistake of purchasing an Alienware many years ago before I knew how to build my own. When it came the GPU didn't work so I they sent me another and it didn't work, so I sent the whole computer back for them to look at the problem, they sent back a new computer and it didn't work, couldn't even POST. Sent it back and they told me "everything was fried" so I ended up just getting a refund.
The only time the first one worked is if I put in an Nvidia TNT2 Vanta.

The hardware components are the same hardware that's in any other high-end gaming laptop, it's really not that different from most brands, it functions the same. I'll agree that the exterior is cheap plastic crap though.

No. You pay a premium with Alienware when you could get better specs for the same price from clevo/sager. It's the same hardware with a very different price.

Scooby doo is a kids show from the 60s about a group of hippies that explore old haunted mansions/buildings and solve mysteries about monsters and shit.
Pepper;36726975']Apparently Afghanistan is really dusty, how did it cope with temperatures?
Yeah it's dusty as shit, if you don't clean your laptop it will kill it after awhile. We used to have air dusters until some faggots got cought huffing them so they took them all away.
Temperature wise, it's pretty good, when it was winter my computer was very happy. In the summer it got warmer but it was not burning my legs like my friends hp. I'd say it's pretty good.
