Maybe because people are tired of the filler they pack in with the good songs.
BPI: "Oh no, album sales are dropping! PIRACY! IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF PIRACY!" Uuh, no, perhaps it's because of this. Biggest selling albums this year: 1. 21 - Adele 2. Christmas - Michael Buble 3. Doo-Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars 4. 19 - Adele 5. Mylo Xylo - Coldplay 6. Loud - Rihanna 7. Born This Way - Lady Gaga 8. Who You Are - Jessie J 9. + - Ed Sheeran 10. Talk That Talk - Rihanna 10 albums of complete and utter shite. Shite. Perhaps noone wants to buy this shit, and that's why your total album sales are dropping? Fucking BPI man.

oh man i am really shocked
Or perhaps because rather than go out in miserable weather to buy a CD, I can digitally purchase it then slap it onto my phone, pc, ipod, laptop, mp3 player whatever digital device I have in my house without having to rip it from the cd/further modify it. CD's are slowly becoming obsolete in the digital age and companies should realise this.

well i have to wait regardless because i use paypal for foreign purchases and most digital stores are foreign
CD's are slowly becoming obsolete in the digital age and companies should realise this.
I'm actually rather saddened by this, for a couple of reasons. Digital Rights Management frightens me the most. I do NOT like the idea of having all of my music with copy protection on it that could quite easily expire at any time. Beyond that, however, I'm getting REALLY tired of all downloadable music being in 320kb/s MP3. It sounds perfectly serviceable, but it is unmistakably worse than a well mastered CD, especially on a decent set of speakers. Most of the dynamics and "flavor" are lost in the compression.

Which in turn people then rip the music from it in a much better format, and suddenly go "Hey everyone else would like this better than bought digital quality" and thus piracy is born. Piracy will exist regardless, but the compression of digital media is just hurting themselves.
Why aren't they offering their tracks as FLAC files without any from of DRM? :saddowns:
I love CDs. I buy them on a near-weekly basis, I never feel like I own the full artistic product if I get music digitally.

Not to sound patronizing, but it's worth remembering that the average consumer is likely unable to tell the difference between 320kb/s MP3 and 1440kb/s FLAC, as an example. American society in particular seems to care less and less about audio fidelity, hence why you'll see people invest in a huge 60" TV and then spend $200 on a shitty 5.1 sound system. Honestly, I believe it's simply that most people do not know any better. [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
You did not just say coldplay are shit
I might catch some flak for this, but I like Michael Buble and Lady Gaga too.

One could argue about the correlation between use of mp3 players and decline of hearing ability affecting consumer quality too.
You did not just say coldplay are shit
in all seriousness coldplay are fucking terrible but they're also popular, whining about popular music because it doesn't fit my retarded esoteric tastes is not only futile, it's also using an argument that has been used for decades and has always been stupid
I love buying CDs and vinyls, especially old singles and the like which are hard to come by. I love looking through the artwork of the stuff I have, though I still do most of my listening via MP3.
You did not just say coldplay are shit
Their new album might even be worse than X&Y, huge let down.
Why aren't they offering their tracks as FLAC files without any from of DRM? :saddowns:
because ipods/iphones don't play FLAC, most people will need to install extra codecs to play flac, the difference in sound quality between FLAC and 320 mp3 is negligible unless you're listening on premium quality equipment, and FLAC albums are measured in gigabytes rather than megabytes (basically if you want flac quality music buy a cd because no digital store is gonna go to the hassle of making it available) also itunes hasn't used drm on its music for years
I love buying CDs and vinyls, especially old singles and the like which are hard to come by
Fuck the mainstream. Adele while I don't like her songs, she is undeniably a great singer so she kinda deserves her place. Bruno Mars can fuck off though :v:.
Why aren't they offering their tracks as FLAC files without any from of DRM? :saddowns:
because flacs take up way too much space, mp3 is easier to handle and a universal file format.

As bandwidth gets cheaper, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if sites offering higher quality audio started popping up.

Most people will get MP3 anyways, but for those interested I think they fully well deserve the same quality they would get from a CD.
I prefer having my albums in plastic cases on display, but I can understand why would people rather get their music instantly
I use both physical and digital and I can see why. Why buy an entire album of music with only 1 song you want when you can just download it to your phone in a few moments? Why drive all the way to a music store or order off the internet for an album you want when with just a click of a button not on is it on your iPod, it's on all your devices. In today's society whichever has the best quality-to-resource ratio will always win.
keepvid.com master race - i get all my music from youtube, lol :v:
The ripped quality is shit

All of you are way too picky with the quality of your music.
