I'd pay full price (£50 ) for that.

I'd like a 1-3 remake, but with Resident Evil 4 gameplay.
Modern games spoil me so much that I don't really like RE 1's stiff control scheme and presentation.

Really? The tight awkward controls made it more fun for me. The inability to move fluidly added to the atmosphere of helplessness.

Didn't really bother me, to be honest. I mean, it could be tightened up a bit, but the static view added to the atmosphere in a way.
That's not to say I'd turn down a RE4 style remake, but I'd be perfectly cool with RE2 and RE3 remade like RE1 was for Gamecube.
Once you figure out the control schemes and enemy limitations in any of the games, the controls only serve to hurt fluidity.
I find myself thinking of the character as more of a tank, with a series of steps on how to beat enemies. Being able to outrun everything and not worry about shooting until reaching the correct distance to do whatever it is that the enemy needs.
You can literally walk backwards in RE4, let your enemy attack, shoot, and do it all over again if you wanted. Very few enemies broke this scheme. The bosses were decently done, in that they required you to run around a bit more and then shoot at certain spots, but they could have removed the terrible quicktime component of the bosses by giving you more fluid control to begin with.
This problem is accentuated because new players who can't hit heads end up running around without ammo for extended periods of time. While running around, they realize that running around makes them invincible. They apply this concept to when they have ammo so that they take clearer shots, hitting the head every time to avoid running out of ammo and having to run around helplessly forever again.
At least, that's how I felt everything was. But hey, everybody likes different things, so whatever floats your boat.
Feels like they just released these Chronicles games.

I wish they listened to people like you.

This.
It helped in making the game hard, even if they were rather clunky.
They weren't really that bad. Its not like it made the game increadibly hard.

Yeah the controls never really bothered me terribly especially with dual shock, makes me want to play RE: Deadly Silence now from reading this.

They would have to render all the backgrounds in HD which would take many hours.
