[SUB]Long story short water was spilled into the top fan of the computer I built a few years back, I have been out of the loop since then and want to buy new parts and rebuild. I will be using the same enclosure, PSU, and CD drives because they didn't get wet and break. But since I haven't kept up with technology at all since then I don't really know what is the best for the price range I have. Came up with this build off the top of my head just want to make sure everything is okay and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Budget please.
Let's say $700
What psu do you have by chance?
The computer is at a friends house right now so I don't know exact model just know it is a 500w Antec
Probably going to want to upgrade that :\
Okay not a big deal, how much power would I need to run all of this do you think?
If your budget is 700, 500w would be alright but not upgrade proof and it's old. If you got a 600w-700w you should be set for a while and able to sli/crossfire the card you want in the future.
Okay thanks what about everything else last time I built Intel was making the Core 2 Duo so I don't know much about the i5 same with the video card, it just had the most eggs on Newegg, so any other options you think would be better in the same price range would be great. Stupid question but the case I have is an Antec P-180 and I noticed they don't produce it anymore but the 1155 slot MOBO will fit just like the old 775 board right?
Also what is the difference between "sandy" and "ivy" bridges on the CPU?

yes the mobo will fit, assuming it's a standard P180, they're both ATX standard
sandy bridge and ivy bridge are the codenames for the core i_ CPUs, sandy bridge being second generation (e.g. i5 2500k) and ivy bridge being third generation (i5 3570k)
ivy bridge CPUs should perform slightly better but the main advantage is better integrated graphics
Interesting, in that case wouldn't the $10 upgrade to the Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz definitely be worth it?
Oh yeah was reading lots of bad reviews about the stock heatsink and fan with the Sandy i5, did they do anything to fix that with the next generation Ivy?
It's only bad if you're overclocking on it, at stock speeds it's fine. A little on the loud side, though.
I don't plan on overclocking immediately so I'll stick with the stock fan for now and I just noticed the HDD is for laptops so I fixed that and switched from Sandy to Ivy bridge, all together you think this is a solid build?

Even though I have trust in Antec, a exact model would be beneficial.
And you could get this with the rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521
Newer generaton, and better performance.
Maybe, I've always used NVIDIA cards and they were awesome, If I switched to the 6870 would I have to change any of the other parts, I'm a little confused is ATI now AMD? I feel like the graphics card be the bottleneck here I'm considering shelling out extra for it, what NVIDIA card would you suggest from the five hundred series, for less than $250 that could compete with the 6870?
Checked Newegg and found:

and for $55 more what appears to be the same thing but says "Ti" and I have no clue what that means

The Ti edition is substantially better than the plain GTX 560 - I would however recommend the 7850 for the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150608
Okay I think I got a better grasp on it now, thanks everyone!
