Ordered with the 650w PSU below. Upgrading my computer, building a new one for my brother. Thought I might as well put them both in one thread. I live in the US. Here's what I've got so far. First, my upgrade: My case is an Antec 900, 600w PSU. Everything besides that (Except for the HDD and stuff) I'm going to have to replace. Skill 4GB (2x2) DDR3 1600 CPU: i5-2400 Motherboard: GIGABYTE H67 LGA 1155 (In combo with CPU, -$20 and free Civ V. I know the Intel one is cheaper, but we need the PS/2 port) OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Need it because I need to restore my computer and I lost my Vista disk) $670 His build: (Needs everything besides monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers) Video card: ASUS 1GB 5850 RAM: G. I'm going to be building both of them, it'd be easier if they both used the same parts) They're both over the budget I said, but that's not really an exact limit. They'd both be cheaper if the $170 5850 didn't go out of stock. Originally I was going to get a 460, but there was a 5850 for the same price. Now that it's out of stock I don't want a 460. :v: If there's another cheaper 1155 mobo with a PS/2 port that would be cool. I don't really think we'll ever crossfire/SLI, so we don't really need two PCI-E slots. There's those USB to PS/2 things, but they only work when there's an OS active, so no BIOS...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131374&cm_re=6850-_-14-131-374-_-Product bam $170 6850
:monocle: That gets like... 4-5 less FPS than the 5850? I'd say that's worth $40 less. Still wish the $170 5850 would come back in stock though. That would make my upgrade $630 and my brother's $810. Quite helpful.
The CoolerMaster 700w reviews have seen an awful lot of DOA... I recommend this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171052&cm_re=650w-_-17-171-052-_-Product Also, if you are into overclocking the GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127518 For the HDD, instead, get a Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] It performs very close to the 5850, but more importantly, overclocked, it can easily rival the 5870. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] Actually, it performs either much better than the 5850 or slightly worse.
Alright, I'll get that PSU. (Was originally going to get that one anyway, costs the same) So, without overclocking the 6850 preforms a bit better than the 460, with overclocking the 460 (Going by the benchmarks on this) it preforms a little bit worse than the 5850 for $10. Going by that I might as well get a 5850 and OC that. As for the HDD I don't see a reason in getting that. It's the same thing for $5 more. It's not like the Western Digital one is going to break, I've had one for 2 years and its been fine.
