HD Radio is self proclaimed as: ------------------------------------------------------- "The most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally – a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past." # FM stations now with CD-quality sound # AM stations now with FM-quality sound # Crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion * More info on your dial, such as traffic data and stock info * Real-time artist and song IDs * Free of charge like radio should be * No subscription costs, no plans and no monthly bills Heres the actual Website: http://www.hdradio.com/ ------------------------------------------- Im not sure if its exclusive to America. I hear ads about HD-Radio all the time...But: Does anyone actually have or use HD Radio? Is it worth getting a new car radio tuner for?
It's really nice, some stations have substations only accessible through HD radio, like NPR. If you can get a new radio tuner for cheap and you listen to radio plenty, why not?
Worth it. I use my ZuneHD for it sometimes, it sounds a lot better.
Yeah, I have it on my Zune HD. It sounds a lot better than regular FM/AM.
Zune HD also haha, definitely worth getting a tuner if you listen to the radio a lot.
I have a Zune 30 GB, some stations have the current playing song / station name. Is that HD radio? I'm in Canada, which I think it's just a standard FM feature.

So its decided that the sound quality is better, but what about these "new stations?". Has anyone noticed stations they didn't get before they had their HD Radio? Thats the biggest selling point for me as of this moment. And the best part is, it doesn't seem like a "gimmick" EDIT: It looks like its location specific. May get tons of new stations if you live in some metropolis, but im in rural Cali, so all I got is a Spanish station and a new alternative rock station that hasn't come out yet. :sigh: Keep contributing to the thread though.
It's heaps better. Great sound compared to old style radio.
Why does America get all the cool radio shit like Sirius and now this. We're still stuck with just regular FM and a few stations on DAB which is digital as well but pretty much a failure since stations decided to broadcast in horribly compressed quality and hardware being overly expensive.
I have a ZuneHD, but if you're getting a new stereo system just for HD radio I wouldn't do it. Buy the Zune then get a radio tuner for it and use it's HD radio features. I listen to the music on my Zune more often than what's on the radio. The selection on the radio is so narrow and overplayed.

I'm planning on buying a new radio in my car, and the HU I'm looking at has HD Radio. If I'm getting a new radio, I might as well get one that's a little future proof for my old Escort. There are only a couple stations here that have HD Radio, but that will probably change in a couple years.
Around where I live, most stations don't broadcast in HD but my Zune will pick it up no problem.
