• Would owning a catgirl be morally reprehensible?

I'm curious about this: If catgirls (as depicted in many manga and anime series') were an actual thing and you could own one (buy them? I don't really now...) would that be morally reprehensible? Now we are assuming of course that if you do own a catgirl you are taking good care of her and looking after her (she's most likely happy too) but does simply owning a catgirl make you a bad person?
If she's happy and you're taking care of her, why would there be anything wrong with it?
They would make great food.
what
If she's happy and you're taking care of her, why would there be anything wrong with it?
The fact that you own her
The fact that you own her
Wouldn't that be kind of like slavery?
Wouldn't that be kind of like slavery?
Would it?
Uuuuuuuuuuuuh.
Aren't they supposed to be like people or something? [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] It would be like owning a person.
One could make the counter argument that they are essentially a big talking cat (and therefore fair game)
well, I don't really care about a cat's gender, and a female cat could get kittens and kittens are adorable and i don't have a problem with kittens so it all should be fine although i will have problem if a cat pees on my wires
But since they are intelligent and can talk wouldn't they have rights?
We have robots that can talk...
Owning something that thinks exactly like a human would be horrible, but that's just my opinion.
We have robots that can talk...
All realistic talking robots are creepy and abominations.
Robots don't have feelings.
catgirls talk human language and actual cats aren't like humans in terms of feeling
i think we're talking about different types of cat.
Man I want a catgirl
If they're self aware, sentient and sapient, then it's some chick with cat ears, which would be slavery to me. If it's none of those, you'd basically be putting your dick in an animal which isn't much better either.
catgirls talk human language and actual cats aren't like humans in terms of feeling
Okay I'm going to keep trying to establish a grey area here (my robot comment was dumb): What about apes? we have successfully taught ape sign language (allowing them to communicate with humans) and apes have demonstrated intelligence but yet we still keep them in zoos (not saying the zoos are right to keep them just pointing that out) So how is being able to talk different? Depends if its closer to human or animal. If human then it will be classed as human, and treated like a human and for all intents and purposes is a human. If animal then it will be classed as animal, and treated like a animal and for all intents and purposes is a animal.
I never said anything about sex Just ownership is the issue here
Lies.
If animal then it will be classed as animal, and treated like a animal and for all intents and purposes is a animal.
We would give them weapons and make them fight eachother.
Has that ever been properly defined in anime?
When has anime ever properly defined something? Hint:[sp]Never.[/sp]
When has anime ever properly defined something? Hint:[sp]Never.[/sp]
I wans't thinking of any anime or manga in particular when this question popped into my head so I really don't know how to define a catgirl. I was just thinking of the general catgirl anime trope...
I'm not sure about your question, but I wonder if they'd serve them in shady Korean restaurants.
I would see them more as equals than pets to be owned.
Personally I feel that the concept of owning a sentient being often boils down to slavery. But if the being wasn't "bought" as if it were a piece of property, and actually started working for you of it's own volition because you pay it, then that is usually what we call "employment". But on the subject of me actually buying and owning a catgirl, it'd have to depend on the circumstances. If she were taken unwillingly from her homeland to be sold by some twisted proprietor, then that's slavery and I would give the salesman a stern talking to and a firm punch to the face. But if she were a willing "mail-order bride" that willingly chose to enter the "employ" of a person, then that'd be more-or-less ok since she chose to do so. And I would most definitely treat her as an equal, no matter the twisted moral environment that such a world would probably have.

No way man, that's the flesh of an intelligent being, and even if it isn't technically human, eating creatures of a sentient nature is one step beneath cannibalism!
