• PSP - Updating custom firmware?

Right so I've gotten interest in my old PSP again, but it's CF at 2.6 just won't do. How exactly do I update, and what firmware supports a 16gig card?
Just download a new firmwear Put it on memstick In PSP->UPDATE folder Stick it in and install it
If you have wireless internet, just go to the update thingy in the far left of the XMB.
If you have wireless internet, just go to the update thingy in the far left of the XMB.
m33 update function wasn't added until.. well, m33. As for the firmware, I suggest 5.50 Gen-d3. Simply because it's the newest.
I'm very old school with these things. I didn't update my 2.6 firmware, because at the time it was the most customizable firmware there were. Now, you're saying all I have to do is dump in the update file from another non-custom firmware, and it'll update even though my current firmware is so old?

It has some fatal bugs. Wifi is bugged and save games will appear corrupted. I upgraded to gen-b2, and used yoshiro's game decryptor to make 6.00 umds work with it. Although since OP was using 2.6 cfw he likely won't need to run new games. So yeah, don't use the latest, or any thing else but the gen-b or gen-b2 for that matter. I am personally a little disappointed in Dark Alex, he is playing up the drama by keeping his website down and not coming forward with new cfws. I think he wants to pretend he is another team again and come forward just like he did back in m33 days. Fucking cunt..

All I wanted to know is, which CF should I get so that I can use a 16GB card, and how do I upgrade when I'm already on a CF.
You need to download and run a custom firmware update software, you can't just run the official update eboot.pbp. The latest custom firmware is 5.50 GEN-D3, download it and read the instructions provided for preparation details. Once the prep is done, run the installer like any other homebrews
Your best bet is to go to Youtube, then search for "psp upgrade 2.6 to 3.71 M33". From there, you'll see a bunch of tutorial videos explaining the process of upgrading.

[editline]03:20PM[/editline] You can't call darkalex a cunt after he did all that for us, let alone for free.
You can't call darkalex a cunt after he did all that for us, let alone for free.
You can call him a cunt, just because he did something, even for free, does not get him off the leash for insulting. Especially when he just refuses to put any news out.
I think you firstly need to go to 3.52M33-4 and then upgrade up from there.

Your best hope is to read some "official documents" such as release notes [editline]11:27PM[/editline]
I think you firstly need to go to 3.52M33-4 and then upgrade up from there.
Uh No you don't
Uh No you don't
5.50gen requires 5.00m33 6 that requires 5.00m33 that requires 3.52m33 or higher. So basicly I was correct
3.71 m33-4 here, every new little app I find on OHG works perfectly. I will never leave it unless I have to.
m33 > Gen It has much better features implemented.
Ahem.
3.71 m33-4 here, every new little app I find on OHG works perfectly. I will never leave it unless I have to.
This isn't exactly for posting about our PSP's, this is to help me update mine. :colbert: I remember some old news about 3.something had support for a 8gig card, but that's not what I'm going for. I'm going for a 16gig card for storing movies on. Now, I just suppose I'm gotta update to the latest, even though I don't like having such a new firmware on my PSP (oldschool paranoia from back when 2.80 would wreck all your dreams) Do I just do it the oldschool way, with dumping the custom firmware + 1.50 + 5.5(?) and run it?
I suggest you download this and run it on your PSP. I'm not sure if you really need a specific CFW to use it though, but I don't think so.

Apparently my PSP doesn't have 2.7, but 3.7 Will I be able to use a 16gig card with it?
It's a really simple process, I fail to see what's confusing about it but here's a tutorial. http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f133/video-tutorial-the-ultimate-guide-to-hacking-upgrading-t247791/
Just get a pandora battery and get it over with
I use the latest M33 (which is quite old) because it's the last firmware IR Shell supports. My PSP is only good with IR Shell on it.
Again, sigh, I'm just asking a simple question and only getting answers based on the title. I'll be better off googling. :frown:
Your cfw won't effect which memory sticks you can use or the sizes... just get an official sony 16 gb stick..., create a pandora battery and use the psp pandora deluxe v3.3 app to create a mms... Create a pandora battery using psp tool v1.0 (run on your psp... need to have a cfw psp in order for it to work...) http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1637 Psp Pandora Deluxe v3.3 (best app out there for psp modders, can pretty much setup a mms for any major cfw release...) http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1543 (hold left shoulder button with the mms and pandora battery in to start the flash after you have everything prepared, make sure you use a magic gate memory stick, if it's a mark 2 you'll have to use mspformat.exe to make space for the ipl and that only works on xp.) (this is the easiest way in my opinion, it sucks having to find every required update to get to the latest when you're on a really old fw...)
