So i want this graphics card
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/EVGA+-+GeForce+GTX+460+1GB+GDDR5+PCI+Express+2.0+Graphics+Card/1700638.p?id=1218282102998&skuId=1700638&st=EVGA%20gtx%20460&cp=1&lp=1
First off i was wondering if this brand is good the EVGA. Then is says it requires a 460 watt power supply so should i get like a 600 watt? or something
Yes, EVGA is very good, and yes - I would get atleast a 600w PSU just to be on the safe side

Does that look ok for a power supply?
Looks fine, would go for a 560 Ti instead though.

The GPU and PSU you picked are both fine but I would honestly go to newegg and get these since it is cheaper.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908
ATI 6850 cheaper and almost same performance, If you insist on the gtx 460 here it is but it is out of stock at the moment http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130570
And cheaper PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371048
Looks fine, would go for a 560 Ti instead though.
Also if you do have the budget I too would suggest a 560 ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127594
And the 620w psu I already suggested.
How do i know if the one i want will fit in my machine.
How do i know if the one i want will fit in my machine.
Take a measuring tape and measure from the PCI expansion slots to as far forward as it will go until you hit the HDD cages or the front of the case.
Alright does it matter if i open it up if its on or not?
What's your specs?
Alright does it matter if i open it up if its on or not?
Um, as long as you don't touch anything like the motherboard or any electronic component yea it'll be fine.
Um, as long as you don't touch anything like the motherboard or any electronic component yea it'll be fine.
This isn't really a concern either, motherboards are pretty hard to break, really.
Well it looks like i have about 8 inches...
Well it looks like i have about 8 inches...
Not bad. But I of the top of my head, I don't think it's enough.
Anyhow, full specs of your computer?
Edit: Jeps, too short. Try taking a picture of the inside of your case.

Well i am not exact on that, probably about 8 or 9. My specs now are AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1045T Processor
AMD RADEON HD 6450
8.00 GB RAM
1397 GB- HD
This isn't really a concern either, motherboards are pretty hard to break, really.
Well when the PC is on you shouldn't really touch anything.
Which case is it?
[editline]4th December 2011[/editline]
iirc the 6870 is 13''
Well when the PC is on you shouldn't really touch anything.
Ahh, yeah, didn't think of that - anyhow, I've done such a couple of time, and he's just gonna measure the case.

I understand that, I was just saying make sure not to touch any electronic components while doing it, I fried a ram stick doing that...

The 560 Ti is 9". He's pushing it. Especially if the 6-pin connectors sits a bit awkward.

If you move those wires out of the way it looks like you could fit the 560 in there or a 460.
Not sure why that picture is massive but yea. So it should fit?

Alright sweet. Do you think when i get my new power supply to i will have more room/less wires?

Um maybe, i was just saying it looks like you could fit a 560 or 460 in there, I honestly cant tell if something is under it or not. Also if you have the cash you could get a new case for about $60 - $70
Heres the haf 912, $60 great case and has removable HDD cage even though you won't need to remove it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=Cooler%20master%20haf%20912
[editline]4th December 2011[/editline]
If you cant afford a new case, psu and GPU just get the 460 and new PSU and it will be a tight fit but it should fit.
hmm thanks i gotta think of what i wanna do now.

I'm more concerned about the heatsink, really. Isn't there a singleslot 6850?
by the looks of your motherboard, your CPU might be old and bottleneck your new card. Might want to add another thing on your christmas list. :p
I'm more concerned about the heatsink, really. Isn't there a singleslot 6850?
Hell I don't even know, I'm assuming this is a pre built which isn't good since the cases on the inside are usually frickin small.
I'm more concerned about the heatsink, really. Isn't there a singleslot 6850?
it's not a problem
looks like it's an inverse ATX case, the heatsink would occupy the next slot up not down

if he's buying a new PSU he'll be removing those cables anyway

I can't tell if thats the edge of a HDD cage where those wires are though.
