Does anyone know of any good mechanical keyboards that don't cost over £100?
Flashy blue lights and a shiny exterior would be a nice touch.
Blackwidow standard edition.
Why do you want mechanical so bad?
Mechanical keyboards are probably the most comfortable thing to type on.
Personally, I use the Das Keyboard Ultimate. I think it may be over budget, but it is worth it if you type a lot. It's not too fancy looking with backlit keys or anything like that, but it's completely blank so it looks extremely sharp sitting on your desk.
I have tried the Blackwidow and it simply does not stand up to the Das. The construction of the BW is simply too flimsy and the keys don't feel as satisfying to type on as the Das.
However, if you want a keyboard that is extremely comfortable to type on, get the IBM Model M or the Unicomp Customizer. The Model M is around ~$50 - ~$90 depending on where you buy it and the age of it. The Unicomp Customizer retails for $80 (google it, it's on some yahoo store, but it's legit) and is essentially a remake of the Model M. The only difference is that it has 2 windows keys on it (the model M didn't have any) .
Hope that helps.
The BW is definitely very cheap and flimsy in comparison to other mechanicals. Pretty typical of Razer.
People will disagree because it's like driving a civic all your life and then getting in a Lexus and saying it's the best thing ever because you've never driven a BMW. Of course the BW feels better than a stock Dell keyboard or the like but it's still no where near as nice as other mechanicals....it's like if you took the lowest end Lexus on the market and priced it as high as the BMWs and Audis.
Do you have a preference for full size vs tenkeyless?
The BlackWidow isn't really flimsy, though it's definitely not as sturdy as my Model M. I like the BW, though there exists better keyboards. However, Razer has good distribution so it will be substantially easier and cheaper to get a BlackWidow.
I have whole Guide to feeling of different kinds of Mechanical Keyboards in my Mechancial Keyboard Megathread
But I would recommend picking up a used IBM Model M for around $30
