So I hate my HP Pavilion laptop, and its out of warrenty, so I need a new laptop. I was thinking of a MacBook Pro, but that shit's gonna set me back by a few grand. Anything out there that has the same or similar hardware as a Pro but is less than 1000CAD?

Nice. Is Asus like dell when it comes to bloatware?
apple section is over there -->
He said he wanted a Macbook Pro, but it was too expensive. Am I supposed to answer him in the Apple section or something?
I too would recommend the Macbook. It has pretty much all the same features and spec as a low end 13' mbp. You still have your multitouch trackpad, unibody design, and everything except aluminum chassis and keyboard illumination. If you really want a mbp you can always get a like new refurb for a stack. Same specs, same price but smaller HD. http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB990LL/A?mco=MTA4MzIzMzA

Of course what you would have to decide upon is wether you want the bigger HD (macbook) or an Aluminum chassis and keyboard lights (MBP) since a refurb MBP costs the same as new Macbook. Other than that they both have the same specs and features.
A Toshiba Portege. They're light as hell, relatively good for gaming (Can play CoD 4 on mine as well as Source games.) and they have a huge battery life (Some models have 8 hours!). What's not to love? Although some models are more expensive than a Macbook, IIRC and if it were a choice between Macbook or Portege I'd choose the Macbook purely because it's a Macbook.
if you want a mac air look alike http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152132 if you want a macbookpro look alike HP Envy although they are overpriced right now macbook look alike http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117923 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152131 that is the best IMO, but what are you planning to use this for
Light gaming, schoolwork, random dicking around with programs. Photoshop would be the heaviest program, and world of goo would be the heaviest game I'd be playing on the laptop.
oh god don't get a 17 inch. too much weight. I have a 13' and the screen doesn't feel too small ( my last laptop was a 17' and i rarely took it to school because it was too big, heavy, and had a shitty battery life)
So I talked to one of my friends and he recommended the Dell Studio XPS. I went on the online store and made the customizations to it. This meet the Facepunch seal of Approval? :v:

Even macs are cheaper than that. If you don't want to go mac, I would look at the Lenovo outlet store.
I love how I say that I didn't want to spend more than a grand and then I find a laptop that's 1349 :v: Also the Macs may be cheaper than that, but that Dell's got exactly the kind of hardware that I want. I think I might stick with it. Might order it for Christmas in November when I get my paycheque :D

Besides the extra 2gb of ram nothing is much better than you would find on the normal macbook. .2 ghz speed difference a nvidia 9500 instead of an 9400 see what I'm sayin?
And Windows 7
personal preference really. I find myself to work faster with OS X and multi-touch. Just checkout your local apple store and bestbuy.
