• MSI GE60 Laptop fan broken/help find a replacement

Hey FP, so I've got an MSI GE60 laptop that's having a bit of fan trouble. The computer is 'JUST' out of warranty so that's not an option really. Tonight while playing some video games all of the sudden out of nowhere "WHREREHHHHHRHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" loud as shit grinding vibration inducing noise coming from my laptop, so I immediately freak and unplug/shut down. After I realize it's the fan itself making the horrible noise I take her gingerly apart and remove the fan module. (internet picture) This baby right here. I removed the metal covering on the fan and saw marks where the fan itsself had obviously been rubbing on the metal covering. Now I've come to the conclusion the fan is kaput and should probably be replaced but upon researching replacement fans it looks like all there are available are original MSI manufacture fans and they're going for a whopping $60-$80 which in my book is just fucking ridiculous, it's a fan, and obviously a shit one at that. Other laptop fans are much cheaper. My question is: anyone know if there are any replacement fans I could buy for my MSI GE60 laptop that aren't necessarily original MSI parts that cost 60 bucks? Any third party fan that will fit the space or any way to buy a new fan and rig it to fit?
P/N on your fan please.
The barcode and number on the fan says: E330800400MC200C23016559
Is there any writing on the fan motor/hub? Close up pictures of both sides of your fan would be helpful.

I checked all of my parts sources and I can't even find something close to that. It sucks, but you're going to have to eat the cost of one of those ridiculously overpriced Ebay fans if you want a replacement. That is unless you want to try experimenting with a similar sized blower that isn't an exact fit but may work. Maybe something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-Dell-XPS-15-L501X-L502X-Laptop-Cpu-Cooling-Fan-W3M3P/121241025867?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D5174045302062827521%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D130903794731%26 Though you'll have to carefully measure out the available space where the old blower was to make sure the new one at least can fit in without squishing something.
Did more digging and found a match: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/90-New-Laptop-CPU-Cooling-Fan-For-MSI-GE60/1673534897.html It's still retarded expensive but it's half of what the Ebay fan is.
Didn't want to revive an old thread and all but this thread led me to a msi ge70 fan for 41 bucks compared to the crap 65 it is everywhere. If you don't mind because I've looked everywhere, could you see if you could find me a msi ge70 windows 7 keyboard, the non back-lit one. everyone wants 105 bucks for it and MSI says there all out of that model of keyboard. Any help appreciated.
All of the official channels I checked were the same price you mentioned for the backlit one. Without knowing the P/N slapped on the bottom of the keyboard, won't really find much else.
Heres the part number on my keyboard V123322CK1 UI. And damn man, thanks for the fast reply to a one month old thread, I'm shocked. Thanks again for the help. [editline]21st April 2014[/editline] Seems I've found a keyboard at http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-us-keyboard-for-MSI-A6200-CR620-GX660-GT660-Keyboard/938951658.html but it doesn't have the UI in the title, it looks just like my keyboard on my laptop, wonder if I can use it?
If it looks like it will fit, it probably will. You're still taking a risk though. If you want to go cheap and don't mind waiting up to a month for it to arrive then go ahead.
Seems like the only difference between mine and that one is that this one doesn't have the screw holes attached to the underside for the screws. Think I could undue the ones on my old one and glue/solder them onto this keyboard.
I wouldn't go poking and prodding on it, those laptop keyboards are ridiculously easy to damage. What happened to the keyboard on your laptop, did you spill something on it? The one on aliexpress looks like the snap-in kind of keyboard, which are REALLY annoying to replace.
few keys on the keyboard have stopped working, laptop is year and half old, got it back in august of 2012. Its snapin but mine snaps in too, it just has two standoffs that screws screw into.
I'll have to strike MSI off the list of laptops to recommend people if stuff randomly fails with less than 3 years of use and parts are retarded expensive and hard to find. If you haven't tried already, you can use strong compressed air to blow under the non-working keys. Or you can go for broke and disassemble the whole thing and clean everything. Though that might end you up with a destroyed keyboard.
I've tried my air compressor multiple times and the keyboard is kept together with very small plastic rivets (best I can describe them) and once you break them, they don't reattach. Its just a shame I cant get the replacement keyboard from MSI, but they said they no longer have that models parts. Gonna call the guy again tomorrow and talk to him about my options, otherwise I think I'm just gonna order that one keyboard and rip off the old standoffs from the broken keyboard and just use a strong ass glue to attach them to the new one. either way, it should snap in tightly. Like I reported earlier, there the same model number except for the UI at the end, which is suppose to indicate its a U.S. board, but the picture looks exactly the same as my board. IDK
