my new psu arrived so i can ask this question again... should i make my pc 64 bit? here is my speccy result:CLICK ME!
You have 4GB of RAM and you won't be using all of it on 32 bit, so yes, go to 64 bit :)
is there a way to go 64 bit without reinstalling my OS?(kinda lost the disc..)
I don't think so, sorry
well then next question: how do i upgrade to 64 bit?
Backup your files, buy or find your Windows Vista 64-bit disc and product key, then insert the 64-bit disc, reboot, and wait for it to say "Press any key to boot off of DVD", press a key, then follow the instructions.
It costs money btw, to get a 64 bit disk.
snip
You cannot upgrade to 64bit unfortunately. A full reinstall is the only option.
It costs money btw, to get a 64 bit disk.
Usually the store-bought package comes with 32 and 64 bit disks
Usually the store-bought package comes with 32 and 64 bit disks
lost it [editline]06:21PM[/editline] going to buy a new version a vista tomorrow... thanks for the help
lost it [editline]06:21PM[/editline] going to buy a new version a vista tomorrow... thanks for the help
Go for windows 7. You can pick up an OEM copy for about 130 dollars on new egg. The OEM gets locked with your motherboard, but I think if you change it you can just call Microsoft and say it died and they reactivate the key.
staying vista, i don't like how win 7 looks and works(explorer).
Looks better than Vista, works much better than Vista. There is no reason not to get Windows 7 except narrow mindedness.
i prefer "ye olde" vista because of the way explorer works (in win 7 it's f'ed up) and i'm to cheap to buy it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754&cm_re=windows_7_64_bit-_-32-116-754-_-Product Windows 7 x64, 99.00 even. Best deal I could find unfortunately. If you change your mind about Vista this is probably the best deal you'll get on 7 brand new.
ok i will buy win 7 X64. but i will keep my "old" win vista installed... now i have a quadrupleboot ;) (hackingtosh,vista,win7(thanks to doomish),ubuntu)
now i have a quadrupleboot ;) (hackingtosh,vista,win7(thanks to doomish),ubuntu)
Why?!
i prefer "ye olde" vista because of the way explorer works (in win 7 it's f'ed up) and i'm to cheap to buy it
If anything, Vista's explorer is fucked up compared to 7.
Mistake beyond belief. 2 similar versions of windows NEVER play nice with each other.
just found out. needed to remove both vista and 7 before reinstalling 7. DAMN YOU WINDOWS! [editline]11:27AM[/editline] couldn't i just make 2 separate partitions?
Why don't you install a Vista theme then, if you solely liked the look? Your logic in this thread are dumb
I'm sure you aren't the first to dislike windows 7's taskbar, but the fact of the matter is that windows 7 greatly outperforms vista, and is worth the upgrade, if you search around, you can definitely find some mods that you can download to change the explorer taskbar back to the original, although I would just suggest that you embrace the change, it's really that much better.
You can configure the superbar to look like Vista anyway.
Windows 7 also handles RAM better :) this computer has never ran so fast since I changed to Windows 7 :D
