Good on them for doing the right thing. Though this problem really shouldn't have existed in the first place.
I honestly thought they released it just to trick people into thinking it actually was Colin McRae Rally 2, but this shows that they actually do care about their customers to some degree.
Good move Codemasters, just went up in my book as a publisher for that.
yeah good move offering refunds codemasters after releasing a piece of shit game and using unclear language to dupe people into thinking theyre buying a different game theyre so nice and thoughtful
I wouldn't expect anything less from what I am reading in this article. They don't deserve any praise for doing exactly what they should.
When I saw it I assumed it was Colin McRae Rally 2005 but with the end missing because they looked so similar on store page.
Saying that why isn't the original and 2005 not on steam codemasters?

I think they do, personally. We seem to have reached a point where common practice for this sort of botch is covering it up, ignoring it, or even doubling the bullshit. Seeing a publisher not only publicly announce their mistake is already hard enough to find these days, but to offer full compensation for the product makes it even more admirable in my eyes.
This sort of sense of responsibility needs to be encouraged. It just might make publishers and developers a lot more cautious.

If they were trying to dupe people into buying a different game then why would they be giving out refunds?
Personally I think the page made the distinction clear enough, it only took me a quick look at it last week to realise they weren't the same game. The trailer and images at the top of the page were evidence enough. For comparison's sake, Steam and PS1:

The problem is the description mentioned Colin McRae Rally 1 and 2 and didn't mention the mobile game at all. The description also made it look like it was a HD remake of the first game, and not a port of the mobile game with higher resolution textures.

Colin McRae Rally 2 on PC looked much, much better though.
Idk why Codemasters cater to the casual audience when they're the last group of people that would be interested in racing games outside of Mario Kart.

I'd still like to see a rerelease of the original PC version (which the PS1 version is actually a watered-down port of with less tracks and features) that is optimized to be stable on modern platforms.
It would be also nice if they removed "The Classic Off-Road Experience" title from the steam store page, as that mislead a lot of people.
