Out of curiosity; and out fell a 3 contact transistor labeled 51 PUI. Scared shitless, I popped my ipod back together, leaving the transistor on my desk, and turned it on. Works just the same as before, audio is working in both channels and it will charge and still transfer music. So why the fuck did this little transistor come dropping out of my ipod? (the pick is for comparison purposes)
Electronically, transistors are mainly used to regulate voltage/amplify signals/whatever. It's not entirely necessary like a microchip, but it may cause something bigger to short out if it was used to regulate voltage.
its actually a secret chip like in that home alone movie
It's a spare.
it is obviously a bug, the feds have been tapping your ipod, listening to your music and porn.
quick search found http://www.projectsunlimited.com/audioproducts/index.htm i haven't got further than that

There's no obvious place for it to solder it in.
OH SHIT! your fucked...
Avatar fits well.
Maybe it's a component for the dock connector audio output?
After a few hours of digging, I found that it's a voltage regulator for the battery. I have no idea what the fuck it does, all I know is that it belongs on the ribbon cable for the battery. I found a small picture that shows where it's located. My dad is amazed that my ipod still works.
It's probably to prevent any fluctuations from the battery.
I think its for the firewire charging facility where it takes the 30v FW to 5v USB.
I think its for the firewire charging facility where it takes the 30v FW to 5v USB.
So as long as I don't use firewire, I'm alright?
Should be.
So as long as I don't use firewire, I'm alright?
Trail and error should give you the answer on that.
But if he's wrong, he's lost his iPod. :ohdear:
Trail and error should give you the answer on that.
Trail and error. I shall trail my errors, yes. Guess I'll just have to wait it out.
So I swapped out the audio jack/hold button, which the ribbon cable was attached to, with another ipod with a dead hard drive. The transistor was secured, although it's labeled 61 PUI.
