Currently my Dad is doing his second degree on Human centred systems, and as part of this degree and also as his own personal project he is making some kind of weird wearable/portable computer that can be controlled without a keyboard and mouse. It's currently in the very early prototype stage, later on it will use a Beagle board instead of the mini-ITX board he is using right now. Here are some photos of what he has done so far: http://filesmelt.com/dl/2010-10-24_20-43-39_259.jpg http://filesmelt.com/dl/2010-10-24_20-45-08_47.jpg http://filesmelt.com/dl/2010-10-24_20-46-26_336.jpg http://filesmelt.com/dl/2010-10-24_20-47-46_988.jpg http://filesmelt.com/dl/2010-10-24_20-48-45_727.jpg He's mainly setting everything up and testing out the projector at the moment, he also has a pair of those glasses with a built in screen. Also note that it's been running off that battery for 4-6 hours, it's very power efficient. Later on it is going to be controlled without using a keyboard and mouse using his TI Chronos Flying Mouse watch: As well as his Motorola Droid for voice/text input, and mouse control if needed.
Holy shit, your dad is going to be legendary if he pulls this off perfectly.
That's pretty cool, don't see much use in it tho.
For some reason that flying mouse just seems fake
Holy shit, your dad is going to be legendary if he pulls this off perfectly.
My dad has over 20 years of programming experience, is more computer literate than most Facepunchers, and is extremely intelligent so I think he can pull it off. He doesn't exactly know where it's heading right now as it's just a prototype he is messing around with.
For some reason that flying mouse just seems fake
The Logitech Air mouse is something quite similar I think.
Your dad deserves a medal for being the best dad ever! :buddy:

Woah woah woah, glasses with a built in screen?

It is a hard concept to do correctly. Doesn't mean your dad doesn't have the knowledge about computers, just means it might not come off as successful.

Not to mention that programming is not engineering.
Also, The gadget show did it, Twice. But don't let that set anyone back, though.
Not to mention that programming is not engineering.
Program engineering is
Program engineering is
Not in a conventional sense, however it shares systems engineering (in a far different manner, though0. See: Sanitation engineer.
Gentoo in this bitch. Now.
Not to mention that programming is not engineering.
as a software engineer I am insulted.

Its also a personal project. Its better than anything you will probably ever make.
Holy crap, what projector is that
One can only imagine the porn applications for this technology.

He doesn't even know exactly where he is heading with this right now. [editline]25th October 2010[/editline]
Not to mention that programming is not engineering.
It can be most of the time, engineering can involve software. Also the degree he is studying right now is human centred systems, which is directly related to this. [editline]25th October 2010[/editline]
Also, The gadget show did it, Twice. But don't let that set anyone back, though.
Yes but it was poorly executed.
You can be an engineer of almost anything. Trust me, I'm a Mechatronic Engineer.
Your dad is putting all this effort so he can have a 'hands free' porn device? The joke is on him when he uses that flying mouse.
What he is planning is completely different to that, get your facts right. He doesn't even know exactly where he is heading with this right now.
Contradictions?
Contradictions?
He does somewhat know where he is heading but not completely, he doesn't have it all planned out exactly.
That projector is sexy.
Is he going to buy some glasses for it as well?
