As I've seen in the task manager, memory usage blasts up to around 97% when idle, and it makes my PC lag like all hell. Deleting a 1kb notepad file, watching one youtube video or listening to one song on winamp becomes stuttery and almost undoable. I don't have a lot of programs running in the background and my specs are better than decent.
However, when I go into safe mode, the memory usage never even goes above 30%. I really have no idea how to track the problem. My PC being unlaggy and usable would make me a happy man. Once in a while the ram usage dies down but shoots back up again with no discernible pattern. Also, I scanned for viruses/malware/whatever, and I don't seem to have any.
Specs:
- Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)
- i7-4790K 4 cores @ 4.00GHz
- ATI Radeon R9 280
- Corsair DDR3 8GB RAM
- Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme4
So uhh... Yeah, I'm out of ways to try and find the problem. This started happening maybe for a few days, but I have no idea what change made all this happen. Here's a picture. Anyone else deal with something like this?
Even though you scanned, it sounds like a piece of malware or a rootkit. run malwarebytes and tdss killer.
motherboard?
what, that doesnt even apply
what, that doesnt even apply
Yes it does. There are known issues with some shitty motherboard drivers that can cause issues. Like the killer NIC drivers in MSI boards.
Judging by how the problem hasnt been happening since day 1, the motherboard is irrelevant as drivers dont update themselves, other than a rare gpu driver through windows update, and he never said he updated/installed any drivers.
come on now.

They do in Windows 10.
They do in Windows 10.
Really? i honestly havent gotten any like that yet. I just had a gpu driver show up once because i had uninstalled them, and even then, it was horridly outdated.
Even from a clean install i havent seen anything special happen.
I had the same issue a few weeks ago. It turns out my internet driver was conflicting with something else. I fixed it by updating it. I had Killer Internet as my internet drivers.

That's because Windows 10 also runs updates automatically, behind your back, and unless you have Pro and know how to use Group Policy you can't shut it off. Fortunately, MS has gotten way better at updates, so at least 95% of the time, it will work every time.
sc delete wuauserv
dont even need pro
I solved the problem, I had some sort internet-driven rootkit. So yeah, post #2 kinda nailed it.
Dont mean to brag here, but all those that rated me dumb.........
Glad i could help!

That's an incredibly reckless thing to do, and suppose you need to update Windows later, what then?

alright see, now you're just making things worse for yourself.
The bit about "motherboard is irrelevant" wasn't actually dumb, it was just outdated information, and Facepunch has nearly reached Tumblr levels of "disagree == objectively wrong and stupid". You didn't actually deserve those boxes. This box from me, however, comes from you being an asshole right here, and you wouldn't have gotten it if you just never mentioned the ratings.

Thats why you take note of what the service is and you can just recreate it later, and i did just exactly this a few weeks ago.
As far as making things worse for myself, no im not. I feel the need to stand up for what i believe in, i was right, and the other people who dont do this for a living were wrong and rated me dumb. Had i not been rated dumb, i wouldnt have felt the need to post anything about it. End of story.
Your lack of understanding of troubleshooting makes me think you don't actually do this for a living.

Its funny that you say that, yet i was right. Hmm.
And yes, i do do this for a living.

The troubleshooting process isn't all about just being right.
Thanks for the citing. But as you can see in the first post, he recently upgraded to an ssd, while the op in this thread hadnt changed anything. This is why i knew that it would not be relevant.
I also have some troubleshooting for levelog.
Find a hole and stick your finger in it, then walk away. If the hole moves with you, its not a hole in the ground.
