• Bluescreen on startup after Windows update
    9 replies, posted
About two weeks ago, Windows said it needed to update, so I updated and restarted. When I started my computer, the theme was changed to some odd version of Windows classic and everything ran like shit. I eventually had to use system restore to make it go away. I eventually disabled automatic windows update and everything seemed fine. Well last night, Windows said it needed to update again, but I accidentally hit restart. Now every time I attempt to boot, it goes to bluescreen. Vista 32bit.
Bump, really need help.
What's the error code on the Blue Screen?
search for a tutorial on using WinDbg, it's feature that comes with a set of Windows Development tools which you can download. It takes the memory dump file that is created after the BSOD and scans it and shows info about what happened. It shows the last memory stack text, failing modules, and a probable cause for the crash. After finding the probable cause, google it and see what causes it. I used it recently to find the reasons for several different BSODs i was getting after building a PC. One was caused by a bad stick of RAM, the other was a serious conflict caused by Zonealarm firewall.
Zonealarm firewall.
:gonk: If I was a computer with that installed, I'd BSoD too.
Can't even boot into safe mode. It seriously seems like there's nothing I can do. Lost my Windows disc a while back, so I can't reformat. Everything I try to do I get a bluescreen. Fuck Windows update. This is our only computer so that makes it worse.
We need the error codes, we cant do anything than telling you to reinstall without them

Get on another computer, get a CD, download MemTest86+, burn it to a CD, boot off the CD, and check your Ram. If there are errors, remove one stick of Ram until there are no errors
