• Static problem with my G25 Wheel

Hey, sometimes I have a problem with static on my Logitech G25 Wheel. The plug for the wheel is always plugged in, but I leave the usb lying about on the floor. My PC is on laminate flooring too. On occasions, whenever I have touched the metal part of the usb, I sometimes got a light static shock but this seems to happen when i've been walking in socks all day. Although, something alarmed me tonight when I went to plug it in the back of my PC; I could have sworn I had saw a very small spark as I was holding the wire and the metal of the USB made contact with the metal of the back of my pc. However, it didn't do anything to the PC such as restart etc.. Whenever my wheel was plugged into the front, turning on my speakers would sometimes make the wheel turn on and off and my iphone would not sync properly in the front. Whereas the back USB ports, plugging my wheel in there would not be a problem in terms of functionality. My wheel works perfectly when plugged in, but could the problem be because i'm plugging in hardware that has an external power supply? Should it be necessary to plug in my wheel when the PC is off?
It's because the ground of your PC is at a different level than that of the ground on the wheel. This causes a potential difference between the two and thus a spark is caused. You see it all the time with complex A/V Setups and can manifest itself as an audible buzz in audio equipment. It is nothing to worry about, I have had plenty of shock of this kind when installing various pieces of A/V hardware. Though it could indicate a ground fault on the power supply. For what it is worth, my palm M515 (Back in the day) had an external PSU and did this.

Would a surge protector help at all? I know my current 4-way plug socket doesn't have one included, but there's one in the house that does.
Going on the fact I have never had an issue with either my palm or my audio setup in the living I'd take a guess that it will be fine. But there maybe someone better qualified to offer their input. A surge protector caters for a separate issue but won't help in this case. All I can really suggest is: if they aren't already, try the wheel and PC plugged into the same power strip. Like I say, it is a common problem with A/V hardware, some people disconnect the earth/grounding of one device to fix the issue but this can be very dangerous, the grounding is there to save you life, among other things.

I may put in a word with Logitech, although their website says "2-year warranty" when I had bought mine from someone else.
I strongly doubt that's a faulty G25, but you can fire a ticket to Logitech if you like to query it: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/support-downloads (click Email Support at the right) Point of note: The G25 is discontinued, so they might send you a G27.

I'll ask them about it, although the G25 has been around for under 4 years, their warranty apparently says 2 years.
I just thought, do they check everything if I send it back? I think the person who sold it to me put in a brake mod, like a rubber thing or something. Should I take this out?
