Right-click crashing File Explorer on Windows 8.1 Toshiba laptop
5 replies, posted
Basically as the title says. I don't know what to do to fix it. I've read into something about shell extensions that could be causing File Explorer to crash, but I don't really understand what I'd be doing to fix it so I don't want to do anything that tampers with anything without knowing exactly what it is I'm doing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks :)
Did this start occuring after you recently installed new software? Something like maybe a virus scanner/version control/iso mounting software? Those sometimes have shell extensions, meaning they add items to the right click menu so you can act on files faster. Anything with file control recently that you maybe installed too fast without reading through the options in the installer, missing this installation.
It probably doesn't work on the latest windows version because it's old?
Just guessing here
I would suggest downloading autoruns and then looking through for anything that you don't recognise.
Right, thanks guys. I'll look into what you both said.
Hopefully it should make everything fine.

Well I only got the laptop for Christmas, and it started happening a few days after, so it must have been something I installed. Thanks :)

I found an application called ShellExView that basically displays all the extensions and highlights in red the ones that aren't actually beneficial, so I'm thinking that I should just disable them.

Update! I can right-click when I first open file explorer and it goes straight to 'My PC', but once I go into any of the folders on the Hard Drive (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads, Desktop, etc.) if I right click Windows crashes.
did you install pushbullet?
pushbullet was a big culprit recently, i think they've fixed it
