• Replacing RAM, questions about it.

Hey FP, so I want a nice boost in my performance from a fairly decent computer, but the RAM is 4 x 256 MB DDR RAM, Really bad I know, but anyways, I want to upgrade the RAM, and this is my mobo http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d915gag/sb/CS-027104.htm Anything I should know before doing this? Can I just take out 1 slot and put a 2gb DDR chip in? Or take out 2 256's and put 2 1gb chips in?
Don't remember off-hand if they introduced dual-channel for DDR motherboards, but I'd say either option would work alright.
What you want to do is have two channels matched. I think they do them odd/even. So, for instance, memory slot one and memory slot three need to match, while slot two and four need to match. This gives you 'dual channel'. Matching meaning same speed and amount(preferably same make too). If any of the pairs are mismatched then you will only run in single channel mode. Dual channel is better for Intel CPUs, but more total memory is best. So if you have a choice of dual channel but less memory, or single channel but more memory, go with single channel more.
